Nissan's answer to the Rav4/CR-V?
« on: March 31, 2006, 02:36:32 am »
The new all-wheel-drive Nissan will adapt some of the styling elements of the Murano and is expected to be powered by 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines with perhaps a six-cylinder power plant for the top model. According to inside sources, the new Nissan compact SUV will be a world car, set for launch sometime in 2007.

Yeah yeah ... it's not a looker but keep in mind that it's just an approximation of what it may look like. (styling cues from Renault ... whatever that means)  Should be coming to NA ???  The new Nissans are finally coming out of the pipe for NA ... this CUV, the Versa, the new Titan.  But we're still stuck with the old Sentra :rofl2: ... could it be replaced by the Versa sedan.  :-X

I’m not sure how the X-Trail fits in anymore.

In the middle I suspect - below the Pathy and Murano and above this little guy. Under $20 grand would be a good market to aim for me thinks.

It's eh ok. But like Shnak said, it looks more like a Matrix/Vibe competitor. Price it the same and I'm sure it'll sell

I agree the matrix/vibe/Swift/mazda3 hatch and the like are probably what it's targetted for. Otherwise that would leave the Xtrail fighting a member of its own family for sales. It doesn't look so bad. I still hate that Nissan emblem attached to that belt buckle on the grille though. Yuck.

We can't forget that Nissan has no cute-ute contender for the US market...the X-Trail is an overseas vehicle that's been imported for Canada only.

QFT :)

While the X-trail isn't avaliable in the US it's pretty much avaliable everywhere else (europe, canada, australia, asia...) so either Nissan decides to try to compete with Vibe/Matrix etc or they can the X-trail. I sure hope the latter isn't happening.

there's no cargo area.. i doubt that can compete with any SUV.. vibe/matrix makes more sense.

i'm not a big fan of the looks of those types of cars.. but i'm offended the least by the looks of this one. =)

I think that this type of vehicle will become more and more popular on our roads... as fuel prices rise, people will look for vehicles that offer them the same level of comfort and room while consuming less fuel... and small hatch like this will fit a lot of people's needs. People want no-nonsense vehicles, which is why the Matrix is such a hit. And I strongly believe that the Mazda5 is too minivan-like to attract a lot of buyers... This Nissan seems to be very similar to the Matrix, and would be a hit if it was sold affordably here. Honda needs ot take its head out of its ass and bring a vehicle like this over here... the Fit and Civic are nice and all, but what if you want a little bit more space than both of those without going with a SUV?

Let's hope Nissan brings this thing over here, we need more offerings than just the Matrix./Vibe in this segment.

wagons period would make sense for most people. Unfortunetly people have visions of shaggin' wagons from the 70's with wood trim on the outside when you even mention wagons. I sure wish there were more of them at a competitive price on the North American market :)

I second that. Although I think they are slowly but surely making a comeback. There is the Focus wagon, Optra wagon, Mitsubish Lancer wagon etc...

"According to inside sources, the new Nissan compact SUV will be a world car, set for launch sometime in 2007."

I think it's going to approximate the old RAV4 ... a little bigger and more CUV-ish than the Matrix.  Doesn't mean they won't be cross-shopped.

The picture is an approximation (photoshoped) so the rear cargo area will probably be much bigger.
