Repair Fine Scratches Part 2 - ScratchX Test
« on: March 25, 2006, 01:58:37 pm »
I have no particular car detailing experience.  I am happy to hand wash the car in nice weather, but generally fall back to touchless automated washes in the winter months.

My last discussion thread "How to Repair fine scratches?" provided me with many helpful comments, suggestions for technique and products.  As promised in this thread I will provide a few images of before/during/after.

I washed the area to be fixed and dried it.  I used Meguirs ScratchX 3 times consectutively.  Each time applying with a little elbow grease and gently buffing.  After the 3rd application and buffing I applied Meguirs Gold Class Liquid Wax.

I'll try to stay organized enough to give an update from time to time.  The end result was quite positive.  Maybe not quite the miracle one might hope for but with a casual glance it is 95% improved (by my scientific how does it look analysis).  Due to the relative horizontal direction of the scratches looking straight down at the scratch location standing directly beside the car and the appearance is 65% improved (My photos don't really show this view).

At this point I am happy.  You be the judges. I am curious to see how long the benefit lasts.

The photos will be in consecutive posts in this thread.

After the application of the Gold Class Wax.

Major improvement - We'll see how it holds out.

Yep..good job!  I have used Scratch-X in the past, and it's a pretty good product.  I cheat by using my Porter Cable double-action polisher though!  ;)

Looks good!  8) I'll have to do something similar to get those scratches out (or at least less obvious) from around the key hole.
Only one question remains in my mind - our car has remote entry, how exactly did those scratches get there.  ??? Must speak with wife.
Whatcha got in your mouth, pooch?

In the bright sunlight the remainder of the scratches definitely show more than the earlier posted photos, but improvement is certainly in the 60-75% range.

I'll try to get a photo of the full daylight appearance.

I suspect that I will get it a little better in the future with an additional application of the ScratchX. Given that is was the first use of the product for me I didn't get too aggresive with it.
