VW will not replace a clutch as a customer service goodwill, even for their most loyal customers.  A friend of mine had a clutch go on his 03' Jetta 1.8t and they told him he abused it which was total bs.  This as it turns out is a know flaw with the 1.8t.

The price of the clutch and other related parts plus the labour cost are not cheap anymore. Even the labour rate would hurt the average persons pocket.  :)
