The next big merger and/or buyout?
« on: March 20, 2006, 08:45:47 am »
Ford got Volvo and Land Rover
MB got Chrysler
Nissan and Renault join together
Toyota buys a peice of Subaru from GM

So what will be the next buyout or merger?

VW and MB merging???
MB and Honda merging???
BMW and Honda merging???

Persontly I see Toyota making the next big merger or buyout.  Maybe with Peugeot.  Or maybe Toyota will buy GM on the cheap within 5 years or so.

Suzuki would be a choice here. But Toyota doesn't need Suzuki, they have Daihatsu to produce small cars. Honda/Toyota aren't going to get into the acquisition game like Ford/GM did. They don't need to, its working for them, they are operating profitably. IMO, any acquisition or trade would be in the premium sport brands from Europe.

Honda won't be merging with any company.  Highly unlikely

BMW is in an interesting situation... as far as I know, they are pretty much the only small company that is very profitable... but why would they want to merge when 1) they are doing very well financially and 2) they wouldn't benefit much from anyone in terms of technological know-how...

Who will buy Jaguar when Ford dumps the line?

What will become of Saab when GM drops it?

Nissan has been eyeing Saab for a long time. Nissan needs a premium European brand to compete in Europe. The guess is that Carlos is waiting for things at GM to get worse before submitting an offer.
