"Tested" a new M5...
« on: March 18, 2006, 06:32:58 pm »
Had 2 friendly jousts with a new M5 (beautiful black...WOW!!!) and finsihed ahead both times in my BPU+ Supra.  It appeared he was heading towards TO.  Didn't notice if it was a press car, or even if it had Canadian plates.  Both times were from a stop.  Fun nite to be sure.....Not sure if I should give all the details and incriminate myself...
How fast is my Supra?  I sh*t on Cessnas from a roll....

Not many sedans (or even sports cars) are faster than the new M5.  The M5 has a sweeeet interior.  It's the ultimate car in my opinion, and even though I've never driven one, I'd probably take it over a Porsche or Corvette.

So what is a BPU+ Supra?  A Toyota Supra is what you drive?  What year?

I've seen quite a few new M5's driving around the streets of Vancouver.  Gorgeous rims and rear exhaust pipes.  I also saw a new yellow Corvette Z06 today.  Killer body that new Z06 has.

Otherwise, you shouldn't street race!

I agree. These cars are too fast for the street plus it is just stupid.  Take the street racing talk to another forum as this is the place for it.

...

You mean faster in a straight line? With all due respect, with its 4000 lb it is a bit too heavy... M5 is fast and luxury cruiser--something of AMG type--not a sports car that excels in twisties like Porsche or Corvette.

Street racing is an act of gross stupidity IMO. We have had WAY to many deaths here in BC in the last few years as a result. Unfortunately, not all of the deaths involved the racers. I number of totally innocent bystanders have been killed as well. "It could never happen to me" just doesn't cut it.

In this day and age, bragging about street racing makes about as much sense as bragging about how hammered you were when you drove home.  :nono: :P

That's very true, Ross..

Too bad we don't have any legal tracks in the area where such drivers can get their fix legally.

As far as the M5 goes, I've seen a couple here.  They are GORGEOUS.  I'd really have to think about that SMG opposed to a clutch though.

Yea, no doubt street racing is stupid.  This is the 2nd time in the last 5 years I've raced on the street.  I'm at the track nearly every Friday.....I DO "save it for the track".  But this was too amazing to pass up.  Late at nite, empty roads ahead...and 2 rare cars lined up.  Sorry...I could not resist....We all have our moments of weakness at this, and this was one for me....

Testing cars is inevitable, and it mostly the young drivers in their modded POS’s that spoil it for everyone. I test my car abilities against test worthy opponents when a good opportunity presents itself. I also turn down many challenges by because of where and when.

"I don't get drunk EVERY time I drive, so it is OK."  ::) :P

Rationalization
A defense mechanism where one believes or states an acceptable explanation for a behavior as opposed to the real explanation.

Rationalization is finding 'good reason' for things that we really know are wrong.

b : to attribute (one's actions) to rational and creditable motives without analysis of true and especially unconscious motives

In psychology, rationalization is the process of constructing a logical justification for a decision that was originally arrived at through a different mental process.

Good thing I don’t have a PhD, I would never have any fun.

I do and I do have fun sometimes... But, 1) it happens VERY rare and 2) conditions allow.  I remember last summer it was too tempting to ignore CLK 500 and Porsche Carriera zipping past me on an empty stretch of 401... So, I matched their speed making sure the guy in Carriera could not pass me.  We played a bit, after which the Carriera guy showed be a big thumb up; then we pulled to the service station and chatted a bit. The Carriera guy said that his friend in the CLK and he talked over the radio and wanted to check if this winged Subaru has any guts. So, the Carriera guy downshifted to third, but still couldn't pass me! So, we complimented each other rides and had a friendly chat about cars. Both guys were in their 50-ies.

I should take my own advise , if you read something you dont like do not reply

"It's no-body's business but mine is I have a few drinks before I drive."

"I enjoy having a few tokes before I drive - makes it more fun. You old farts don't understand."

"I only drive drunk after the bar closes. It's safe then. If I kill myself, that's not your problem. Leave me alone to have my fun."

"Hey, I got off with a slap on the wrist the last 5 times I got caught driving drunk. Stop whining about the slack legal system. It's not like I've killed anyone."

"I'm a better driver drunk than most people are sober, so the law doesn't apply to me."

Etc, etc, etc.  ??? ::) :P

BTW 3 teens were killed in Nanaimo on Wednesday night. 2 were in hospital. Excessive speed and possible alcohol use were considered to be the cause(s).  :'( :'(

IIRC Tazio Nuvolari used to drink several bottles of champagne while he raced in the Mille Miglia. If he can do it.... :rofl2:  :o

I admit to the occasional burst of speed when challenged on the old bike, usually when it's a punk in a riced up Civic. Sort of like bringing a knife to a howitzer fight!

Betcha Mr. M5 went home in a poor mood. $115500 and still got smoked! :rofl2:
