Barrie, there's only one thing stopping GM or any other car company from producing a similar ad campaign for one of their modern V8 classics - they never think of it first. A GM, Ford or DC, V8-powered version of (what I'm going to call) "Sounds" would potentially have been even more cool than Honda's, but the twits that market these cars obviously aren't clever enough to come up with such brilliant campaigns.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think of "Cog" as the first outstanding example of viral Internet marketing in the car business. Links to that video where everywhere. I loved the latest VW ads, to the point that I'm trying to figure out if it makes enough sense to buy one.
No, these Honda commercials don't run on North American TV, but I'd guess that the majority of 18-35 year-olds have seen them. There's your target market right there. Not bad, considering not a penny was spent by Honda to broadcast them here. These commercials, and the buzz they create, spread under their own power.
It's clever as hell.
