A Full sized Buick with the 3.8 engine will do his requirements just perfectly. Definitely plenty of room and safety and dependability with this type of car.  :)

The Camry LE does have the best of space & reliability but pricing would be darn close to $30K, if not a bit more.

For under $25K the Malibu would have almost as much space but reliability is unkown to me.

Update...
He bough a used 2001 Sienna van for around 17k , sold his old car (97Civic)+ paid 10K and got a 06 Civic

Not the kind of solution that he askd me to look for but what the heck it works...

He's got the 'cool' Civic and the utility of the van. Good stuff.

We all thought he wanted one vehicle.

If I could only convince my wife to drive a mini-van. I keep getting 'you buy it, you drive it'.   ;D

go with a used ford freestar minivan or dodge or chrysler, and tack on an extended warranty.  If you buy one of these a couple of years old, you can get it anywhere between 10-15,000.00 + ext warranty and you will be way under budget, with a new style fully loaded, roomy vehicle, fully warrantied  for 2/3 of your budget.  Good Luck
