All new Ford Ranger makes world debut in Thailand

Ford has issued the following press release about the new, locally-built Ranger:

The All New Ford Ranger makes its world debut in Thailand at the Bangkok International Motor Show and introduces the latest of Ford's American Tough Truck to the Thailand market. Ford is confident to continue its success in the one-tonne pickup segment with the new Ranger pickup that aims to set a new standard in the industry in terms of engine performance, fuel economy, passenger comfort, safety features, excellent drivability, towing capacity and affordability. The tough exterior and refined interior design is an extension of the most successful pickup truck in the world, the best-selling American Ford F- series trucks for 29 consecutive years.

The previous-gen Thai built Ranger was sold in Europe and other markets.  This is probably the replacement.  Will we see it here?

The pick-up box has been raised 60mm to offer an impressive cargo volume capable of carrying one tonne payload and up to three tonne towing capacity.

That's definetly not the Ranger we have.  That things hauls more than certain models of F-150 ... is it the Diesel that makes all the difference?

It reminds me of the early 80's vintage Datsun/Nissan 4x4 trucks.

there's only two choices for Ford America: either built it in Canada/USA or drop it! no other choices... dun tell me they cannot justify the cost...

Diesel may be helping but this is not a proof this is a new or significantly different Ranger. Per example, trailer tow rating has always varied for Central America (higher than US/Canada) if I'm not mistaken so it could be the same thing for Thailand.
