What is important is 80-120kph IMO... when you are cruising at 2000-2500rpm, and need to suddenly accelerate to pass another car, that's where the high-revving vehicles 'suck' IMO...

God forbid you have to downshift...

Yes, a turbo SAAB will probably be faster than a NA Honda engine...  but what happens when you turbocharge the Honda?

IMO, attaining 200hp from an engine with a supercharger is no big deal.  Acheiving 200hp from a 2.0L while remaining NA is more of a feat...  and that's all my original point was.

I'd like to see a Pontiac Pursuit SS...  I haven't sat in a Cobalt, but the interior of the Pursuit GT was very nice.  I looked for a Cobalt Supercharged to take a look at, but I guess it's not a very common car on the lots.

Honda loves their I4 ... they've been working on them for the last 20 years.  They don't like the idea of a turbo, supercharger or even a V6.  They've only put one in the Pilot/Ridgeline because they needed the power/torque in such big vehicles..

I agree with you that it is more technology impressive to obtain 200hp out of a 2.0L that is naturally aspirated... but I'd rather drive the turbo 2.0L... I have driven a car with a NA engine smaller than 2.4L that I liked its torque... Honda's 2.4L is the minimum I'd ever want in a naturally engine... Of course, it depends on the size of the vehicle... the 1.5L in the Yaris and the upcoming Fit is probably more than enough for the size and weight of the vehicle, I'll know that when I drive the Fit, but the 1.7L in the previous Civic/EL didn't impress me, and I wouldn't want one.

EDIT: then again, I see the Fit/Yaris mostly as city vehicles... you can have a small engine in a city vehicle... it's for highway passing maneuvers that you need a more torquey engine...

I'll never understand the attraction of a wing on a sports coupe or sedan.  Clutters the lines, adds drag, one more thing to wash and wax, and one more potential rust location.  Plus, other drivers lower your assumed IQ by a few points.  Statistically, they may be right.

So then where would you put a wing?  On a hatchback?  A truck?  A minivan?  A schoolbus?  I've seen them on all 4, plus sedans & coupes, and I can tell you that a wing on anything but a sedans/coupe looks stupid and ugly.  But, wings are a matter of styling and personal taste.  And on some cars, they actually do serve a function.

As a little tidbit of info, it wouldn't be a Pursuit GT Superchanged... it'll be a G5 GT Superchared  ;)

In Mexico Pursuit is G4. The car wasn't to be sold in the US, but soon it will be... as a G5 - don't ask me why, as it has 4 doors and 4cyl's, but it will be.

The name will be changed in Canada to G5, unfortuantely IMO as I rather liked how Pontiac Pursuit rolled off the toungue.

Acheiving 500hp from a 7.0L is not terribly astounding imo, no...  the Corvette is a very neat vehicle, but for different reasons.  i.e. $300 000 performance at a third the price...

Technology: Cool, nothing super-amazing.  Technology at that price: Wow.

I'm new to this site, and just read over everything that's been written.  I figured since unlike alot of you (it' obvious) who are talking about ALL of these cars as though you've driven them all, yet never really even owned one - that I should post a reply.

I've been a devoted HONDA fan for over 10 years now.  My last one was a 1998 Civic LX.  I put a racing clutch in it, and some aftermarket Intake/Exhaust work, then some lower profile tires, and then actually did some ametuer racing with it for two years at Auto-Crossing events across Ontario.  I LOVED the way my Civic handled, and the fact that with 106 HP, I cleaned any automatic Sunfire GT/ Chev Z24, as well as countless RT Neons, even some beat up Mustangs/Camaros.  This is ON TRACK RACING.  Also, I've beaten more than my fair share of most anything in it's class doing light to light racing around North Bay, Ont, Sudbury, and Toronto - all cities I frequent regularly.  I've done my share of Highway Drags as well, beating most domestic competition, since most late model domestics are Governed at 170ish...lol.  My Civic was governed at 190Km/h.

I wanted a 'racy' car for my new vehicle this year.  My Fiance and I looked for something affordable, yet raceable, and did alot  of research, and in January bought our New Car.  A Black 206 Chevy Cobalt SS Supercharged, with a Black Leather interior.  It cost us $26,102 + all the taxes and crap, down here in Southern Ontario.  We were 50-50 to be honest.  She wanted this Chevy, I wanted the new '06 Civic Si.

My argument was that it was "Honda-Horsepower", meaning in the past, you couldn't compare Domestic to Honda/Import.  But like I said, I did my research.  There is almost 1.5 Seconds difference 0-100 times.  Bu to be honest, the difference was the interest rates at the dealerships.  6.9% at Honda.  1.5% at Chev.  A HUGE difference.

Long story short, I bought my SSSC instead of the Honda, and I'm glad I did.  I've SMOKED brand new Mustang GT's (automatic GT's I'm assuming)  I've SMOKED a Porche Boxter (newer model), and a Grand Am GT all new cars, and all on the 401 just outside Toronto.  A 2005 Civic Si (Black, very nice) tried to race me as well, and I BLEW past him when I hit 228km/h still in 4th gear.  In town, I've lined up next to an SRT which was dead even, countless Civics, Preludes, and Accords of all types, even V-6 models, and embarressed them all badly.  Z24 owners seem to know better, and don't even try.  Trucks all new models, of all sorts, some quite sporty looking.  Mustangs, and even a Sentra SpecV - who didn't stand a chance.

There's a bottom line to all of this long post which I'm trying to make...

If you aren't driving something with a tuned 6 or an 8Cyl, or something brand new and small, with MORE THAN 220 HP, or something that cost you MORE THAN 35k (even if YOU built it yourself) , don't try to race the next SS Supercharged you line up against.  You're gonna get your car handed to you.  Call it torque, call it HP, call it cheap, call it what you like - it eats almost anything I've lined mine up against, and the list is LONG!!  I'm still a huge Honda fan, but even their Preludes weren't any match, and on paper, light to light as well as top end- I'm gonna eat an RSX-S sometime VERY soon!!

Safety first- always.   :popo: Like I said, I've always done most of my racing on track, but every now and then, in the middle of the night, someone wants to race.  And I LOVE embarressing the 17 yr old driving Dad's car, trying to impress his girlfriend with the family's New Sedan.  Grand Prix GTP's are common for that.   :P

I don’t waist my time with people under 30 and cars that are not capable of 13 second quarter miles. The last person you want to indulge in a sprint with is a 17 year old.
