I have a Mazda6 V6 and have experienced hesitations at times. Yes it has throttle by wire but the issue is with calibration "holes" (software deficiencies) not because of the type of throttle, IMO.

Although FX has more sporty exhaust note and sportier looks, I much prefer the way MDX drives over FX. MDX feels more substantial, European-like driving feel and rides so much better. MDX feels sophiscated while FX has roughes around the edges from cheap interior to so-so ride/handling compromise.

The FX has a horrible ride.  It is tuned to a much more sporty mode than anything out there.  It's very harsh, jitters over any small bump, and throws the occupants all over the cabin when the roads get rough.  The Cayenne and X5, equally sporty in nature when pushed, has a much more compliant ride.  The MDX cannot corner worth a hot damn, but the it's not designed to.  It's way more smooth.

Re: the "transmission hesitation" that Gardiner Westbound noted in his RX review. I notice that also... but on the 2005 Camry we bought 10 months ago (which is equipped with a 5-speed Auto tranny, probably very similar to the ones in other Lex-Toy products) . I'm surprised very few people have noticed it... we have been trying to get our dealer to do "something", we'll try again in our next maintenance appointment.

I wonder if this hesitation is related to 'drive by wire throttle'.A lot of the manufacturers are doing this instead of the standard throttle cable. I know the corolla in 2005 switched to this setup. I also noticed that the mazda 6 hesitated in a similar fashion but do not know if it has this new fangled throttle setup.

Andrew

Most auto tranny "hesitation" issues are due to drive-by-wire. However, it hard to avoid, as most makers will use drive-by-wire as it produces the best fuel economy and ties in with the other electronic controls such as VSC. Drivers will need to adapt and get used to it as it is very common today. Some vehicles seem worse than others, but maybe some drivers are bigger complainers than others. The HL has a very, very slight hesitation if you really mash the accelerator, if you depress only moderately hard, no problem. The old habit of kicking down the accel. to open other carb barrels, or get it into "passing gear" needs to be forgotten and a smoother driving style needs to be used. The new Solara (so far) shows no hesitation but it is very new.

I think the harsh ride of the FX is likely due to the large wheels it's fitted with. That was the feeling I had. It's a trade off, the FX likely corners flatter, but the ride is abusive. I think.  ???

Infiniti has supposed to soften the FX ride for 2006. Unfortunately, because it is not a new model, it is not getting any press attention so it is impossible to know if the ride has gotten any better.

The FX and it's 20" rims are big.  These are a contributing factor to the complaint.  The thing corners very flat and is very nimble as a result.  However, my personal tests in a Cayenne and the X5 seem to indicate the both these German vehicles provide the same cornering ability, but without the extremly harsh ride.

FX buyer is better to stick with the standard 18" wheels for the reasons you mentioned. The Cayenne and X5 are also far more expansive than the FX. X5 with the 6 cylinder engine is also pretty slow, isn't it?

The 6 cyl Cayenne and X5 are no comparison to their V8 brothers.  But they aren't 10 second 0-60 slow.  They are more expensive (by quite a bit), but the extra money goes toward making a car that's sporty and rides nice all in the same car.  Then you also pay for the badge.

We own a 2005 RX330 Prem. Pkg.  Really the only issues are window noise from drivers door and poor seat comfort.

We have heard the same bup-bup-bup in Camrys and ES330s.  Try sitting in anything Swedish and you will know.

Poor seat comfort is probably the worst issue you can have with a vehicle IMO...

It doesn't happen that often; but I do agree with Shnak on this point.  ;) ;D :rofl2:

Does the RX350 have better fuel economy than MDX?

2007 was a rather short lived model year...

I was really expecting the RX to change significantly this year. It will be interesting to see how the new Highlander turn out to be and if the 2008 RX will age quickly because of it.

They seem to be keeping the Highlander secret or looking at the market, Ford Edge, Mazda CX-9, Hyundai Veracruz. Toyota has got serious competition, Mazda and Hyundai has upped the ante quite a bit. I am quite curious what are they going to do. Toyota dealers are tight lipped, most likely they don't know whats coming out.

My wife really likes the looks of the RX and thinks it is a great vehicle - I am not as keen, but see the draw for it. There sure are plenty of these driving around. Personally, I think that they are bit on the pricey side - particularly when you start adding options.

Very much so.  The $50k RX330 we looked at was going to be in the $60k+ range.
