mazda5 awd???
« on: March 02, 2006, 06:45:06 pm »
With the Tribute ending production soon, are there any rumours for a Mazda5 awd?  The CX7 starts at 32k.  So a mazda5 awd in the 23-27k range was make a great replacement for Tribute 4 cylinder models.

Not that I've heard.

I think the Tribute disappearing will be a short-lived thing. They've decided to sit out from Ford's short '07MY before the redesigned model arrives.

If they start making AWD with stability control, with more power..... I'd have to but another one!
AWD  would be a nice addition though.

I don't see it happenning. For the near term, Mazda's placing its focus on the beautiful CX-7 mini-ute and the larger CX-9 (I think) due for the 2007MY. Two all-new SUV's probably mean the Tribute name is history. As is the MPV for now. The 5 likely won't get AWD to help differentiate the CX-7. Besides, the 5 is an ideal city hauler and is perfectly suited for city driving without AWD.

there is a new mpv van for 2007, but not with a V6.

"Power for the show vehicle will be provided by the new direct-injection MZR 2.3 DISI Turbo engine, linked to a 6-speed automatic transmission"
"In addition to application in the new MPV, the new MZR 2.3L DISI Turbo will also be available in the Mazdaspeed6"

It seems Ford is cutting Mazda out of their 3.0l V6's supply.  I wonder if the next mazda6 will have the 2.3 turbo instead of a V6 also.

I would perfer if The tribute came back as a more truck based suv, like Nissan's Xterra.  Or maybe make a Ridgeline type truck and make a copy of the 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac.

Just a refresh of the existing Tribute. Must do well in Australia for them to continue sales there, but I doubt it'll come here.

And regarding the MPV, the "all-new 2007 MPV" is not coming to North America, although it looks really sweet for a minivan. Maybe Mazda figured there was not enough market for a short-wheelbase minivan (which is what the MPV was compared to most of the competition), especially if it cuts from Mazda 5 sales.

I would want the 5 with the CX-7's AWD drivetrain and engine.
Internal combustion thrust I trust
