Here is another question , what is the engine supposed to sound like on this car 2006 Civic Sedan AT. To me it , at idle, it sounds like a sewing machine in the background. Like a muffled clicking or something. Does the engine sound like that? Someone has mentioned it might be fuel injectors or that this engine has manual (solid) lash adjusters on its valves, hence a "ticking" sound is normal, especially when cold?? I cant remember from my test drive.

Also, is it  normal for that jerky kick back feeling when lightly pressing on the gas peddle? This has also been mentioned by others. Just wondering if its  a normal characteristic.

I have a 06 Civic AT, but so far when i stop at traffic light, there is no sound at all. it just quietly sit there. With regarding the ticking sound.  When does it occur.  B/C I have that too, but it was a tiny piece of (rock or salt) stuck on the tire, so when the wheel spins the ticking sounds will occur. but after taking the (rock or salt) out that sounds disappear. hope that helps.

Most every Honda/Acura I've driven has had the faint ticking sound.  It's normally the injectors, and is perfectly normal.

As for the jerkiness on light pedal acceleration, is the '06 Civic a DBW car (Drive By Wire)?  I know my 2004 TSX has DBW and this is a characteristic of that system.  Since the throttle is electronically controlled as opposed to the cable system we're all used to, it is a bit touchy when first touching the pedal.  You will normally get used to this and/or learn to feather the pedal subconsciously, eliminating the problem.

Whoops, i need to be a bit clearer here. I am talking about the engine and what it sounds like at idle.  It isn't a quiet humm...its a clicking / ticking sound that is a bit muffled or distant sounding if you listen carefully. Thats just what it sounds like after I start the engine. The engine and road noise is too loud to hear this once you get going of course . But at idle, its always there.  I know the car isn't as well insulated as others, and so i can hear a lot of sounds a lot easier but , the engine sure has a characteristic sound to it. Just wondered if everyone is the same. I bet its just the way the engine sounds. No problems with the car though.

That's what they sound like.  1.7s are actually louder.  I think its a combo of injector noise and valve train noise.
