Wasn't there also a problem with their floors where water would get in, or something like that?

They may be reliable, but you get what you pay for...

To answer your question, NO!!! It is a preventative measure only. A couple of cases of surface rust inder the driver's floor mat were reported, so a recall campaign was run on possibly affected cars to keep any problems for occuring. You're statement is absurd in the extreme!!  :P

Absurd is not the word, it is more of a preventive measure than anything else.  They took the carpeting out of mine and the floor was spotless as is the rest of the car, they treated it and it's going to be good for a very long time.  Find me a company that takes care of their client this way.  They called us from Cornwall and we did not even buy the car there, they asked us "did you get a letter from Toyota?" we answered no and that was because we had moved.  They told us "bring it in we'll drive you to work" I'll never forget that level of service from this dealership.  So Shnak you say you get what you pay for, hey hey ya right!

It's pretty rare that you see bottoms of cars rot like this... Echo's were/are built on the cheap side... you know, so that Toyota can maintain their high profits while keeping their selling prices competitive... they have to cut somewhere...  ;)

People are getting extra protection from a reputable car manufacture, so yes they are getting what they paid for, someone who stands by what they make/sell.  Good on Toyota.

I would like to see VW stand behind their cars and correct their electrical glitches once and for all.  It's such an embarrassment to watch a car that price going down the road with either a burnt headlight or tailight.  Please VW get it together!  BTW Shnak don't blow it out of proportion, no Echo with rotted floors but maybe a few spots.

I was waiting for someone to mention that.

VW's are otherwise very desirable cars.  A friend has a Golf TDI, she loves it but the electrical repairs, sensors etc. are just to much.

I would agree with you on all accounts but for the price of them they should be more durable. With the TDI you have to put miles on them to get the fuel benefits. They are great driving cars.

That's crazy!

That's not so crazy for car's that have wet carpeting 24/7.

What is crazy is puny the hardware that actually holds the seats in place (not welded rails).  You pay for what you get in super econo cars.   My 88 Jeep is like that.  On severe impacts the seats rails rip out of the floor. ::) :P

Does it mention how the water enters the car to this?

On people's boots, shoes, etc in the form of snow which then melts.  ::)

Please note that Toytech said that the only bad ones he's seen have been Ontario cars - lots of salt. The Sak cars show little or no rust even after 5 years.

Then I guess you should stay away from any  that are in Ontario. Because they just lay down the salt here

That goes for any old model pickup or car in my region..  Jeeps are really bad for it.  Without fail the driver's side front floor pan is usually the one that has the holes.  Now some cars have plastic floor pan liners.
