My unfortunate next door neighbour has one. He does extra work, such as helping me remodel my home, to help support it. It is a 6-year old money pit with no bottom.

Please tell us you're kidding.

To work a second job to support a car shows dubious reasoning at best (well OK, maybe for a Lambo

) but for a bucket like a Blazer or Jimmy?

It seems to me that one could do a lot better than those pair. Tell your neighbour to sell both his cars and buy one decent car for now, while saving up for a second (perhaps used) car later if necessary.
First, I'm not arrogant enough to tell my neighbour what he should do about anything.

Second, he just got the old crappy Buick as with his wife's job, they really NEED two cars.
Third, he would get precious little if he were to try to sell the POS. He's in one of those awful situations where he can't afford to sell it, and he can't afford to keep it.

Finally, my original statement was a slight exaggeration. Supporting the Jimmy is not the ONLY reason for the extra work of course. He works at the local lumber mill, and with the softwood lumber situation, he's not getting nearly as many hours of work as he used to.
