Those redbook values are way outta whack. The base Jimmy was selling for $18000 new last year.

Red Book values are based on M.S.R.P. In '05, these trucks were being sold at way under M.S.R.P. to get them off dealer lots. Unfortunately, that's not reflected in Red Book's pricing.

I was thinking the same as Careener - they had the 2drs for $18Gs for '05MY and sold a tonne of them. Red Book values are useless if they don't actually reflect the market.

Still, you couldn't pay me enough to drive these thirsty, unreliable tin cans. My brother liked his too... till everything went on it and he traded for an econo car as it was worth nothing.

My sister and her husband bought a 2-door Jimmy in 2000.  There were problems from day one.  One evening some kids tried to steal it, and when they were unble to hotwire it, vandalized it in the driveway.  It was a write off and the money was used to buy the Elantra GT that my sister and her man now own.

My sister's husband is a real car nut and a mechanic.  He used to be a die hard GM loyalist, but he said that the Jimmy cured him of that illness...

Laugh at Post Above I think my next-door neighbour may also be cured of that illness.  His other car is an old Buick - it's also sucking out his liver.  Cry

My unfortunate next door neighbour has one. He does extra work, such as helping me remodel my home, to help support it. It is a 6-year old money pit with no bottom.  Roll Eyes Hurl

Please tell us you're kidding.  Sad  To work a second job to support a car shows dubious reasoning at best (well OK, maybe for a Lambo  ) but for a bucket like a Blazer or Jimmy?   Huh Thinker

It seems to me that one could do a lot better than those pair.  Tell your neighbour to sell both his cars and buy one decent car for now, while saving up for a second (perhaps used) car later if necessary.

First, I'm not arrogant enough to tell my neighbour what he should do about anything.  Roll Eyes

Second, he just got the old crappy Buick as with his wife's job, they really NEED two cars.

Third, he would get precious little if he were to try to sell the POS. He's in one of those awful situations where he can't afford to sell it, and he can't afford to keep it.  Cry

Finally, my original statement was a slight exaggeration. Supporting the Jimmy is not the ONLY reason for the extra work of course. He works at the local lumber mill, and with the softwood lumber situation, he's not getting nearly as many hours of work as he used to.
