Wanted to lease a 325ix Touring.  Had to test drive a 325ix sedan 'cause there isn't any available to test drive.  First disapointment. Test drive was wonderful, very nice car, nicer drive than the V50 I tested the week before.

But, you look at pricing.

For the equivalent model in the V50 (T5 AWD with sport package), you actually pay about 100$ less per month.  Add to the fact that, according to the BMW salesmam, there were only 6 cars available in the whole country.   Embarrassed

So the V50 it is...

I've seen a few 3-Tourings around now, probably from corporate office. Somehow, they have lots of side glass around the rear and the roofline slopes so much that it has a 3-Series fanny-pack type look about it. Still attractive though.

The 740 SportWagon WAS cool, with the badging and those hardish slatted headrests! Volvo can do some cool wagons!

It would have to be slightly used. V70 R's start at $61-$62K new.

There's a market for the smaller luxury wagons, but I think I would also prefer something better like a 5 series wagon, V70, E class wagon or even a 9-5 wagon. Maybe a slightly used 3 series wagon would be an option.

And Chris, don't let MDX bug ya, the old 240 and 740 (especially the turbo wagons) were cool! At least that's what I keep telling myself  ROFL

V70R is hauteness.... saw one in black. the burnt orange interior matches it for some weird reason for a boxy wagon. This guy has children at the back too.
So when's the M3 Touring's gonna show up since the M5 Touring is coming....

I was intending to purchase a black V70R with the orange leather and the nav package.  I'm still pissed I have to boycott Volvo....but those are the rules I live by.

What happened again at that Volvo dealership? Wasn't it something with not being able to test drive that used V70R for some stupid reason?

True, but that's the starting price. Once you pack on any options (true, there aren't many) plus freight and taxes, it's gonna get up there. But hey, maybe you're right. When you're taling only about 5 to 6 grand, maybe it isn't so inconceivable.

Darn tooting that Volvo's aren't BMW's.  The Volvo would absolutely blow the 530xit into the weeds....on the straightaways. Grin  I haven't driven the new 530xit yet, but the V70R I tried was close, but not quite a BMW feel. I find that there is less  BMW "feel" (connected direct road feel) in the newer 3 series than the old. Sorry I am not a BMW fan and don't know the fancy platform #'s. They were both 3 series an 03 and a 96. I prefer the handling of the 96. Does the X drive effect the handling feel? (ala Audi etc)

Hmm.. the V70R comes out about 300$ more per month (lease) than the V50.  And about 200$ more then the 325 Touring.  So I'm not sure I understand your point Huh

Ah the old thread....love it.  Confirms my strong view of never purchasing a Volvo.  Never.

KTM

I will not disagree,   a V70R will certainly outrun a 530 of any flavour.

I have not driven an Xdrive  I have the older awd system.

I have an 03 3 series and I am told that the awd system does affect the feel and the handling as the car is higher.

each to his own.

I have had poor dealings with several dealerships and sales staff in the past including Subaru. I’m not sure if I would let the experiences totally deter me from a specific brand.
