Goodwood Classic Racing on Speed
« on: January 30, 2006, 10:33:08 pm »
Did anyone else catch any of the Goodwood footage on Speed last night?  Amazing!  Classic Ferarri GTO's battling at the edge of adhesion with race-spec E-types and vintage Vettes.  A truly delicious sight for anyone who appreciates the beauty of those classics... yet as suspenseful as any good thriller movie out there wondering if someone is about to write-off a nearly one-of-a-kind vehicular masterpiece at any moment.

Great coverage!

Yeah...I caught some of the coverage.  It was great.  Goodwood has two big events each year...the Festival of Speed (hill climb) in June, and the Revival (circuit) in September.  This program was the 2005 Festival event.  It's great fun watching those old racers get flung about, and even entangled from time to time.  These drivers aren't holding much back, despite the value and rarity of the cars.

I particularly enjoyed watching the elbows fly on the in-car footage from the Goodwood Trophy race as the lead ERA tried to reign in serious oversteer in every corner.  I think second place in the race (red-flagged after a couple of crashes...one rather serious looking one) went to Mark Gilles who I believe is a contributing writer to Automobile Magazine and a frequent driver at Goodwood events.

The festival of speed is a fantastic event, I can't wait to go to one.  (Not this year though as Le Mans beckons...)

You can get righ up close to the Formula 1 cars and drivers, and you only stand behind bales of hay when they do the hill climb, some amazing machinery there...
