You may discuss our cover story of the day in this thread....
First Drive:
2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder

2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse SpyderAttractive wedge styling, a powerful audio system, triple-layer convertible top, more front seat room, and a long 10-year warranty are the highlights of the redesigned 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder, reports Paul Williams.  However, the V6 model exhibited some torque-steer and a booming exhaust note he says, and the back seat "is largely decorative".    More...

Gorgeous to look at inside and out, but it doesn't interest me to drive.

I crave the powertrain of the real Eclipses of yore, and the looks of this.

Yes I find the conv looks better than the coupe!  Especially with the top up, something about it just looks awesome.

Now to make it RWD and away we go.  The rear seats are pretty useless unfortunately.

Get rid of those gross tailights and it would look good.

FRAUD!!  The last picture of the car with the aero kit has been lowered.  Look at a previous pic of the red one and it is not lowered.  Chrysler did this a lot when showing the Neon, as it didn't look good what with the rear end jacked-up.  Car manufacturers who lower their cars for commercials or press photography without disclosing it are commiting a fraud.  As you can tell, this is a major pet peeve for me...
How come no auto journalist has ever taken a car company to task over this?

I like the styling, love the interior (the front half of it, anyway), don't mind the taillights...  but 260hp and FWD with no LSD is a major turn off.  And so is the pricing...  RWD V8 Mustang for the same money?  Sign me up...

Copier dude, isn't the whole point of the aero kit to give the illusion that it is lowered? The red one didn't have the kit, hence why it didn't appear to be lowered.

Judging from the wheel gap I think copier_dude is correct.

Yup... it's happening.  And you know what?  Those sexy models you see in perfume and make-up ads aren't 100% legit either  :o  Horror of horros!  Photoshop work is done in advertising!  Stop the presses!

My MX-5 looks like a 4x4 in real life compared to the brochure.  I still enjoy driving it though and I did see the wheel gap before I signed on the dotted line too.  Big deal.  I'm looking to get Mazdaspeed springs for my car anyway to tighten things up a bit.  The Eclipse will never be a nimble handler so what difference does it make if it's jacked up?

Did you know the advertisers tint the windows of ad cars too?  That's the job or marketing gurus, make things look better to sell the product.

What…WAIT…WAIT!   Things are not what they seem.  They change the way cars look like in brochures/ads.  Models don’t actually look like that?  WTF is this talk.  Noooo, it can’t be!  :rofl2:

And to top it off they often cut the antennas!

Oh, and they either show no front licence plate (Pontiac Solstice), or show a nicely fitting euro plate, or one that is fully the exact same colour as the car!

Oh, and limo tint all around.

Oh, and every time the car comes to a halt in the brochure, all it's wheel's emblems are upright.

oh.

I just can't warm up to this Eclipse. How come Mitsu had a much better car 15 years ago when you could get an AWD with outstanding handling ( I know -I had a 1992 Talon AWD) and better interior quality? The first generation was by far the best. The second one got more expansive and generic looking both inside and out (but at least you could still get AWD).

The last two generations are big let down. Only FWD and not even with LSD as Demosthenes mentioned! No wonder why Mistsu is going down hill fast and furious!  ;D

I love the Eclipse.  Convertible looks fantastic, but like the review said, WAY too much $$$$ compared to its competitors.  I'd take a hardtop G6 GTP for LESS money than the Eclipse GT.

I don't know I saw the car in Florida a few weeks back and I think it's way overstyled and
to my mind anyway it's ugly. I don't know if this car will appeal to anyone else but the 18-24 set you know the kids that think a hopped up Civic is the epitome of style and performance.
This is a front wheel drive poseur plain and simple.

Saw a beautiful looking Copper! coloured one in Calgary and it caught Wifey's eye...haveing had a coupla Mitsu's I'm partial to them for their rugged reliability(Dodge GTX 2000's ergo GALANTS...1989/91 models)...
But,again!!, as when I bought they flew the Country came back..... and now seem about to do a repeat.... I agree the original Turbo Talons 4WD wre the  apex of Mitsu sporty cars...they NOW have been ECLIPSED... :'(
