2004 tl dynamic vc 2006 tsx
« on: January 29, 2006, 02:02:31 pm »
 ???

Which would you buy?  The 2004 tl dynamic has an asking price of 39,000 and has 17,000 km on it. It does not have the original high performance tires but all seasons.  The 2006 tsx is listed at 41,000.  I know that honda/acura make awesome vehicles but would be interested in everyone's comments.

You wouldn't be in Kelowna, would you? Looking at Parklane Acura?
2011 BMW X3 35i Vermillion Red, MSport
and
2012 Toyota Camry SE V6 in Alpine White

Depends on how long you wish to keep it. In the long run (7-8 years +) I would prefer the solidity of the 6-cylinder TL. It'll be running smoother, longer than a 4-cylinder TSX, especially if you're going to load the car with more than the driver. ALso, the TL nametag's been around for a few generations at least and will probably still be around in 5 or 10 years when you want to resell. The TSX might be history, just as the RSX is gone in, what, 2 years? TL will probably have better resale value.

If you're buying for the short run (less than 5 years), then why not look for a 2004 TSX or TL? There haven't been any major changes since the TSX was launched or the TL relaunched and you'll save a bundle, maybe $5-10k, for the same look and feel as a new/demo.

Thanks tman for your input. I'm not sure how long I will keep the car but I like the idea of a V6 over a 4 cyclinder, even if it uses more gas.
The car is the one at Parklane Acura in Kelowna Ovr50!  Have you seen it? What do you think? Is the price reasonable?

Cool - yes, that is the white one, with manny tranny? I didn't pay that much attention to it, as I was just sort of checking out what they had (more for my wife who wants auto); but I did notice the white one and it looked brand new and very sharp. I think I'd be inclined to go the TL over the TSX, after checking on it's past history of course. Good luck.  ;D

I'd say the TSX's 4 banger will hold up well over the long haul.  I don't think the engine will be over-strained with a few passengers on board.  It's pretty good.  The TL is in a different league.  It's very powerful and pretty good on the inside as well.  For even money, it's tough to decide.  I am going to assume that the TSX at $41k includes the navigation system etc.

For that money, I'd look at the used TL or a used G35.  Also have a lot of options to consider in this price bracket....especially when you're considering used cars vs new cars.

I have the 2004 TL.

Bought it new, and have 50,000k on it.

Love the car, have been very happy with it.  Great power and quite good mileage (can get 7l/100km cruising on the highway).  Don't know if the TSX requires premium but the TL does.

Power is great at all speeds and it seems to have a real power sweet spot in the 90km to 130km range - great for passing on the highway.

I'm a great fan of the 5 channel cd player - even if you don't get DVD audio discs it sounds great.

One significant disappointment - the oem bridgestone all season tires wore out in about 20-25,000km and became very unstable in the snow.  I had a fight with my dealer an got them to split the cost on replacement michelins (they oem these now)  - I suggest that you try to get a deal that includes anything other than the bridgestone turanzas or budget to replace them soon

Other than the tire issue my wife and I love the car  :skid:

Good to hear you are enjoying your TL.  OEM tires are famously inferior.  It's a shame, really.
