Yukon Bound

http://thestar.blogs.com/yukon/

He's taking a 4 Cyl Toyota RAV4 from Toronto to Dawson City, Yukon.  :skid:

Something I wished I could do (not in my corolla of course  ;D ). The farthest I have driven is
Sauble Beach to the West.
Horseshoe Valley to the North
Niagara Falls to the South
Whitby to the East (flown to Ottawa to the east, not driven yet).

Don't laugh, I have only been here since 2003.  8)  :hello:

What a phenominal trip! The pictures are great.  Now how much gas will he ignite? - More than that SMART that tooled across Canada on $4.99 of Diesel.

Something I wished I could do (not in my corolla of course  ;D ).

Why not in a Corolla?  Cripes, I've driven to Whitehorse, Dawson, and into Alaska many times, once in my Mercedes and several times on a street-only capable motorcycle.  People think they're going into the Paris-Dakar Rally or something.  It's a simple drive.
No place I'd rather be...

The Acura magazine I got a while back profiled a Toronto couple and their MDX.  Drove it from Canada to the tip of South America.

I read that MD, it was a good story.  It had cost them a lot of beans but it looked like a once-in-a-life-time trip.  Interesting to note that ICBC only covers you in Canada and the US.

It was probably the only story I found interesting in those magazines.

Why would he stop at Dawson?  A few years ago, my wife and I flew to Whitehorse and rented a camper.  (GMC 4x4 3/4 ton extended cab with a humongous camper on the back)...We drove up to Dawson, then took the Dempster up to Inuvik.  Took a daytrip by plane to Tuk, where we did a bus tour (!)...dipped our feet in the Arctic ocean....then drove back down to Whitehorse.....it was an interesting trip.....

I have no clue about the terrain I would travel, not yet. May be I would be able to make an educated guess by then. My car is not very good at tackling high wind speeds more than 60km/h. I am not that experienced of a driver, again not yet.  :skid:
I need to get a G license first  ;D

I have one of these plans, my friends from EU want to come over and go from TO - Vancouver, then down the west coast to LA and on to Mexico where another friend from school lives. Probably will never happen.

Glad to see this is still on your to do list.  Gas is still cheap and the dollar is strong.  Time to make your move!  ;)

Good luck on your journeys guys. Sadly, its unsafe to travel through US for me in current political climate.

But, I am planning to drive over Confederation bridge, hopefully next year.

We drove from Montreal to Daytona Beach in under 30 hours.   Coming back only took 28 hours.  I guess faster getting through Canadian customs and immigration.

Are you on a no-entry list?

I don't know and I don't want to go through the 'procedure'.  :) I'd fit the profile.

The farthest I've ever driven is from halifax to Toronto. Can't say that i really enjoyed it, but that Yukon trip seems pretty cool though.

Sadly, its unsafe to travel through US for me in current political climate.

Unfortunately the same is true for me  >:(

I have that Yukon trip route saved in my GPS unit. It was the second route I created and saved in it, first was home-work-home.
