Some of us won a 2006 Infiniti G35 X...any suggestions?
« on: January 17, 2006, 09:55:20 am »
Just today I got word that I and 4 others won said car in one of the "Hospital Lottery" draws.

The lottery indicates that the retail price is just over$51 k (including taxes?) and the 'cash out' value  is calculated at 93% of the MSRP...which works out, according to the lottery as just over $39 k.

Okay the obvious question.....is it worth the trouble selling it?

WOW!  That is great.  I've always wanted to win a car on one of these draws and thats a pretty good car to win.

How about buying out the other 4/5ths of the car at the lotto cash value?

$39,000 * 4/5 = $31,200

Not a bad deal for a new G35X I say.

I would suspect you would get more than $39k for it used...... maybe someone will chime in on the true market value of this vehicle.

What do you drive now?  Did you even consider keeping it?   $39k is a nice chunk of change if you don't need the car though!

Damn I wish I were so lucky.

Wow, way to go, Box, lucky bit of luck, that was.

To avoid hassles, I would suggest selling the car and splitting the proceeds. Sopunds like $6 or $7k each. Cool.  8)

I think that's awesome.  Congrats on the win.  I've always bought, never won.  Oh well.  Even if you were to take a loan out to pay the others out at the lower amount, sell the car for $45K, you'd have made a good little profit?

$39/5 but definitely a nice unexpected windfall.

I was wondering if one does accept the actual winnings in the form of a car, who pays the sales tax or is that covered? Since the car is not yet actually purchased from Nissan, I would assume/expect that the winners are required to pay the sales tax.

To attract a private CASH buyer to this vehicle one would need to lower the 9% off list anyways.  So much hassle to re-sell it.  It would need to be registered to one of the winners, plated and insured.  Technically it would be a used car upon immediate re-sale and that would effect warranty for the third buyer later on (depending on company).

I dont know for sure but I am very confident that the prize includes all incidentals ie taxes.

I agree of course...just put it out there..I mean here ;) for discussion. With so many cars given away in these health care lotteries I wonder what % of people who win a car actually take the car and not the cash 'equivalent'?

I would take the cash too, unless you could place a quickie ad in the paper or Craigslist.org (don't know how many people surf that up here) and see if there's interest.

Lucky you's!

I came up empty handed  :-\ - but have known a few people who have won cars, electronics, a house, and such.
AQUAMAN64 also posts on BDFD.com!

Oh, there's 5 of you in the winnings. I misread 6 and another poster used 4 - guess math wasn't any of our long suits. Should get about $8k each on sale then.  ::)

If it were me, I'd take the money and run.  At best, you'd get an extra $2k over the $39k I'd bet.  The G35X's aren't selling THAT well that they're going for MSRP out of the showrooms as far as I know, so after advertising costs, you'd probably get an extra few hundred bucks each.  Really not worth the headache in my opinion.
