Car Wax/Polish
« on: January 06, 2006, 10:06:01 pm »
Hi folks:

Which is better, Nu-finish, or Mothers California Gold Carnauba Cleaner Wax?
My son just bought the latter after applying a "pearl" paint and 3 coats of clear-coat.

I bought the Nu-Finish for my 2005 car.

What are you looking for - best shine, easiest application, longest lasting, best protection? Just as cars have a different combination of strengths and weaknesses, so do these products. Nu-Finish, for example, does NOT provide a concours type shine, but it protects well and last a long time. Define your priorities.

:-[ Didn't know there were so many parameters!  DS is looking for shine and protection.  I'm looking for protection from the elements.

Thanks for the links, russ and air, I've checked them out.  Never knew there were so many out there. I always just used Turtle Wax on my old VW Rabbit.

Geesh I wish I could think about waxing my car, it's too damn  cold  out here in halifax to even think about it. Anyway the Nufinish in my experience lasts for a long time but is harder to buff off of the vehicle. The Mothers product gives a nicer shine but doesn't last as long if you wash your car more frequently.[ not as much wax residue as with nufinish] Presently I am using Meguiars NXT on my red miata, Brings out the red nicely but you have wax more often.

I have/had Zaino, but wing got me some quick and dirty Meguair's NXT a while back.  Zaino takes a long time to apply all the different layers, but it's good.  NXT is not bad, I used it this year as I don't have the time to do the Zaino application.  Looked good to me.

Hey Andrew
If you see a black BMW 328I with Ontario plates in Halifax that would be my son.
He is on a 6 month posting,
He is posted on the HMCS Moncton.
He probably has the nice winter rims out there http://www.cartalkcanada.com/forum/index.php/topic,42641.0.html
