I expect that Barries truck would probably pass an emissions test set up for its engine configuration and I'd bet a lot that everything is safely and properly screwed together

Testing Barrie's show pickup truck for emissions is big government doing what is does best ..  :banghead:

I may have this wrong but I believe that Barrie has a different motor in his truck from what was original.  Under the rules that may cause him huge problems as it may not be allowed. :P

Having a different engine than what came in the vehicle is not a big deal. The vehicle is then classified as a "Hot Rod" then though. I'm not sure what limits it has to meet at that point though. I'd assume they are reasonable.

I have a 302 in my Miata, and it passes 'air care' with ease.  Mind you, the Mustang motor is the same year as the Miata.  Also, I had a 1970 VW single cab, pickup, with a Porsche 2.7 flat six in it.  It also passed 'air care'.

Apparently, the new Ontario rules came down hard on pickups regardless of age.  Owners on 1987 and older cars have no testing essentially.

They have drawn the line at 20 years with this old truck of mine so I will end up alright but future possible antique vehicles will pay the price. my truck orig nally had a straight 6 in it but now is a hand built355 CId Mexican Foundry block which is a 4 Bolt main block as well. The Heads are original Camel Hump race heads with the 202 intakes and the angle plug plugs fittings. They have been planed and polished and is Balanced and Blueprinted with TK forged Stainless pistons. Cam is a Competition brand which is made to kick in at around 1800RPM. Forged crank and a cloyes Timing chain setup as well. The dist is a high output unit which has been spun up around a extra 20 degrees of weight. It has a Holly 700 Carb on top of a Eddlebrock Manifold which helps it jump very quickly out of the hole. High output fuel pump and all of the trimmings to make it rock and roll much better then new. I will register it as a older engine as this truck is now 33 years old and they shouldn't bother me too much over it. I have a copy of the new regs and i should be OK on this problem.  The latest edition of Old Auto's Newspaper has the specs in it and it takes the worry out of it.  :)

How so?  Do you mean anything 1988 and over will never be exempt?

So  20 year and older old pickups were not included in the new rules like you had previously indicated?

As it stands once the car is 20yrs or older it no longer needs to be tested in Ontario.
