My 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier (w/ lotsa pics...56K beware!)
« on: December 19, 2005, 02:29:36 pm »
She's not much.  She ain't fast, she ain't luxurious, but she's dependable and IMO looks pretty damn good for an entry level car.

Here's my car:

4.5 years old, 135,000kms and not one, single mechanical problem yet.  Just your usual maintenance stuff.
(brakes, drive belt, plugs, oil changes, fuel filters, etc.)

Very clean...looks very well taken care of.  Good stuff.  Like you said, it's not an exotic car but it does the job.  Nice pics...thanks for sharing.

Actualy, it doesn't anymore, lol.  That's why I'm planning on buying a mid-size truck, lol.

This was a car I bought with my ex-wife (hence why it's an automatic).  At the time we were starting out on our own so funds were limited and I didn't feel like dicking around with a used car, so we went with something reliable that we could afford.  Not to mention that I had owned 2 Cavaliers previous to this one so I "knew" the car (makes it easier to diagnose problems when you know the platform).

I have a habit of keeping all my cars cleaned, waxed and extremely well maintained which is why it looks the way it does.  The Intake, the lowering and the other little things were simply to set it apart and make it a little more fun to drive.

I always thought that those cav coupes looked kind of sleek, especially with those alloys. Are those clear lenses on the turn signals as well? Looks like it's been taken care of quite well. Thanks for posting.

Yes they are aftermarket clear corner lenses (with a white reflector instead of oem amber).
The wheels are from the 1995-1999 Cavalier Z24 (a step up from the 15" steelies my car came with, lol).

Thanks for the comments.

Very nice and clean! Clean enuff to eat off the engine compartment. Are them 3 dials aftermarket? Or is the yellowish color came from something else?  ;D

They are the stock knobs.  All I did was peel off the rubber coating and paint the clear plastic with yellow stain glass paint.  I did that when I first got the car and didn't know any better, lol.  On the plus side it lights up my center consle pretty nicely (without being annoying on the eye).  A bit of interior mood lighting if you will, lol.

A couple of different angles of the engine bay.

I'm pretty proud of it, I spend alot of hours keeping it clean, lol.  A clean engine bay always got more respect from me than simply a clean car.

looks to be in great shape. engine is nice and clean - that is the 2.2L right? My sister inlaw had a 2.4L DOHC one that was quite zippy before it got run over by a dump truck.

Chevy has usually been able to make a good looking compact - J-bodies have usually been good looking for their time period and class. Same with the Vega which I've always thought was a really nice looking car.

Yeah that's the 2.2 Pushrod.

Generally, I find the 1998-2002 2.2 litre OHV to be the tougher motor that GM put in this generation of J-Body. This engine was originally designed and applied in the chevy S10.  They converted it for a FWD application, but to keep one of the cylinders from overheating issues they had to reverse the flow of coolant and that's why you see that big black coolant pipe in front of the spark plugs.  This engine does not suffer from Head gasket problems that the older 2.2 had.  Also, as a result of being designed for a RWD minitruck, the oil filter is located right under the fuel rail between the block and the firewall and right above the exhaust manifold flexpipe.  My car stinks for a week after every oil change, lol.

The 2.4 is pretty zippy, but requires more maintenance.  Like failing to keep the oil topped off runs the risk of spinning the #3 crank bearing.  Not to mention that they have a nasty habit of eating a water pump every 125,000kms and it's a 1,000$ repair bill at most shops.

Very impressive job keeping your car maintained Spidey! Your steed should serve you well if you keep maintaining it like that. I like the green on your Cav. I am probably going to paint my Chevelle that green when she goes into the body shop in a few months. This is an old picture of her from the first summer I had her. She now has a basic 350/Turbo 350 combination.

Thanks for sharin', Mr.Spidey... I always have more respect for drivers when they truly appreciate their vehicles and keep 'em shiny inside and out.  Nice colour too.

Thanks for the comments guys.  Although I still take real good care of my car, I don't have the passion for it that I used too.  I've had it for almost 5 years so I'm getting "bored" with it especially since I don't want to dump any more money into it (for modding I mean).  But I am pretty excited about getting another vehicle.  And I can honestly say that my Cav doesn't "owe" me anything.  It's been real good to me and will certainly still last me another 3 to 5 years.  It will be my daily driver as long as it still runs good.  ;D

Nice car! It looks great in that colour. My friend has two Cavaliers and is driving them both into the ground. So far he hasn't killed either one! Keep going as long as you can. A month without a car payment is a month with money in the pocket!
