wash/wax/paint
« on: December 17, 2005, 01:40:03 pm »
Washed my car the other day.  Polished it today.  I bought "turtle wax 2001."  Great stuff:  Leaves a nice shine, and it picks up any residual dirt remaining on the car.  But does this stuff have any wax in it?  The bottle says it provides a protective layer for the car's clear coat.  My own opinion: I need to go back to the store and buy some wax, and put some wax on.  The wax will leave a thicker protective layer.  the turtlewax 2001 is good stuff if you're washing your car.  But I have serious doubts its an alternative to wax.

Very possibly as a lot of these products are just a cleaner type of polish but not really a heavy wax like you should have. Most of them are more of a precleaner then a total wax product.  They do get the worst deep dirt and can also help hide some of the small scratchs that appear in the paint on occasion. You will see a big difference with real good wax on the car.  :)

You should wax car immediately after washing... not the next day. Good chance you are rubbing grit into paint. There is crap in the air that settles on car even if not driven.

Slybry is quite correct in that advice as it is the best time to do the job of waxing is right after a good wash and cleanup.  :)
