I always like the original 928 design as well. I know the Porsche snobby wana-be purists will disagree.

Porsche has sure been going crazy with new models lately...  Cayanne, Cayman, Panerama (?)...

Not that I'm complaining...  always loved the 928.  I'm sure the new one will be stellar as well.

I hope they still name it 928...they newer Porsche names are getting harder to pronounce and spelled correctly... :P

highly doubt it. In spirit it may links to those front-engined Porsche, but everything else this car is different. Much like the Boxster is to a 550 Spyder.

I hope it would be the 928 was designed in the early 70s! I've always wanted a 928 with a warmed over Chevy LT1 V8 - might still do it if a 5spd one shows up for cheap with a blown motor.

If I had the money I'd own a Beck 550 Spyder (replica). Yummy cars those.

928...there was a manual one for sale a little while back in Alberta...wasn't cheap though.

Very Aston Martin like but with a distinct Porsche nose.  I'll drive it....but I'd get a Cayman first.

yeah I've seen a couple pop up over the years - none cheap enough for what I want to do to it. Not a big deal since I have a whole host of project ideas depending on what car comes along at what time. That Fiesta article reminded me I want one but haven't seen one in a really long time.

Almost bought an old 928 back in 2000 but my wife to be talked me into getting a "reliable" Civic that turned out to be a real dog. Looking back on it she was probably right, we just got unlucky with the car we bought, as the 928's engine is very pricey to maintain (basically a 944 is half a 928 motor) and shockingly expensive to rebuild.

928 is the only Porsche I've driven. I friend of mine was a salesman at the local Porsche shop and it was his demo car. I found it a bit too twitchy at the limit for my taste/ability. Nice car though.

I like the 928 GTS. That's the only one that's nice. But I'd rather have the nimbler 968. So darn close to getting  a1992 model last year. But my wife prolly offended the seller when she commented audibly "I thought we're looking for a Porsche, what's withthis Integra?!".  ::)

Whoops...  :D

Porsche doesn't make the best cars for your average at-home rebuild guy.  Fairly complex machinery under the hood.  But very neat cars, if you can afford to buy and mantain them.

I was told that the price of rebuilding that rear mounted (manual) transmission on a 928 makes an engine rebuild lokk cheap by comparison

IIRC, the Panamera was supposed to be the "928-replacement".
