Just saw Arthurs' Spit, way to go Arthur!

Actually I sold my Spitfire last year  :(

Great car though. Super easy to work on (except behind the dash). I loved it but I bought it for very cheap and eventually it needed the engine rebuilt so I sold it on (sold to a guy in Cold Lake, Alberta of all places!). I just sold  the last of my left over bits pieces on eBay including some very light 100+ alloy wheels (hard to find in Spit's bolt pattern). I'll own another one again but in better shape this time.

Yours looks great btw! Similar (or same) colour as mine but much better shape.

If you haven't already come across it check out www.triumphspitfire.com (tons and tons of info there). Also http://britishcarforum.com is a great forum for getting advice (I'm 78Z there).

Here is the other old Brit I used to own - a 1969 Reliant Scimitar GTE - hand built and never sold here (one of three in Canada). Mine was very rough.

I'm building a scratch built Lotus Seven clone now.

You're into some neat cars Arthur! Has anyone done any engine transplants in these old MGs? Say, a Miata engine or something so that you have the retro looks; but more reliable drivetrain.

zoo - of course! I was planning to put a 12A Mazda rotary or a Toyota twin cam from Corolla GTS into my Spitfire but could never bring myself to disassemble a perfectly working car. Lots of examples done here - http://britishv8.org/swaps/examples.htm

Arthur, excellent! Love the Scimitar. If it's good enough to get the Royal Family speeding tickets, then it must be good. (One of the Princesses IIR).

I used to love the look of the Scimitar, though I never owned one. I liked the Spitfire too, but I could never afford one. My brother had an MGB GT, which miraculously ran even though it was a mess. ;D

I crashed a buddies spitfire once.... driving it to go and collect a 50' garden hose and had to panic brake...trouble is I was wearing big green wellies and hit the go and stop pedals at the same time....the go won by just enough.

When they first came out in th UK, Triumph offered subsidized insurance for the first year of ownership for young lads and lasses...sadly I suspect that sort of thing is illegal nowadays as it o\undoubtedly discriminates against someone or other.

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.
