Diesel-powered Audi R10 for 24-hour LeMans

Wow...650hp, 1100 NM torque. Only "need" to be in 3000-5000 rpm for the race.
Should have great MPG...less gear changes, less fuel stops (probably not an issue as they have to change drivers anyway).

Very impressive indeed.  I tuned into the broadcast for awhile this morning and they were talking about breaking Diesel into the US soon as it proves to be more efficient and cleaner.

Sounds GOOD...has a diesel ever been on LeMans before...excuse my ignorance..while I grab a croissant and a nubile attende ANT!!!..Oh I'm coming down the Mulsanne STRAIGHT!!!! :D

Yup...last year Taurus Motorsports ran a VW "Toureg" diesel engine tuned by Caterpillar Electronics in their existing Lola chassis. Unfortunately the car was retired after a couple of hours due to transmission or clutch failure.

Apparently not a huge advantage in fuel mileage. This is due to the following quote from the designer of the car:

One of the diesel engine’s biggest advantages is the low fuel consumption, especially at part-throttle and overrun. However, when compared to more classic circuits which demand a higher ratio of part throttle, the lower specific consumption will hardly be noticeable at Le Mans because the quota of full-throttle is almost 75 percent.

They were looking at my 82 Rabit with a drilled out aur box but it was
too much HP to handle.

This car should be able to go about 2 or 3 laps more per tank of fuel, which is a lot around Le Mans which is 8.5 miles long. It would be pretty amazing if it won (albeit in a cloud of smoke  :rofl2: ).

Last time I was there was in 1989

I'm jealous.  Attending this race is high on my list of things I'd like to do before I kick off...motorsports wise anyway.
