06 Tucson...Please help me make an offer
« on: December 12, 2005, 03:04:14 am »
Hello All;

First of all, what a great board...I have been reading it for hours, now time for my question;)  I am looking to buy an 06 Tucson, base model with air package...after calling the dealers in my area, cheapest quote over the phone was $24,000 (that includes freight/PDI, floor mats..."everything except taxes" I was told).  What should my counter offer be?  I am planning on purchasing, not leasing.  I have never done this before, so any help would be appreciated...should I get the report from APA and just add xxx dollars to the dealer invoice? How much more?  I live in B.C.

Thanks for your time,

Mariann

I'm assuming your base model means a FWD GL?  Here's the Canadian Hyundai site....

Not sure which one you're going with...but $24K doesn't seem to be a screaming deal for any GL model.

I would get the APA or Carcostcanada.com price report to see how much room there is to negotiate first. My sister just bought an '06 Tucson GLS AWD and having the dealer cost info was a big help. She was able to drive a hard bargain on the price, including negotiating away any admin fee (the dealer wanted a $295 admin fee but eventually agreed to drop it entirely).

You also want the dealer(s) you're working with to break down that $24k to see what exactly is included, but it sounds like they're quoting you based on sticker price, or close to it, and you could certainly do better than that if you work on it.

Thanks for your help...the model I am looking at is the "2.0L GL FWD - Air Package
5-Spd Manual".  I can't wait for this to be over.  Thanks for the suggestions, please keep 'em coming!

I had read a suggestion of faxing 10 or so dealerships asking for a bid, then re-faxing all with lowest bid offer to give them one more chance...has anyone tried this? How did it work for you?

That goes for $22k according to the site...not sure why they quoted $24k...unless you've got 2K worth of goodies.  If you're getting Hyundai accessories, ask to get them included at cost.

Mariann,

You dont have to do that. Instead of calling the sales, you should ask for the fleet manager, no matter you by for yourself or company. They get bonus by the amount of cars they sell, not by the amount of each car they sell. A good fleet manager should give the price about $500~800 over the invoice price. Then get it. If you are lucky, you will close your deal in an hour. Remember: do it quick, dont waste his time.

Above is my experience. I closed my deal in 45min. My friend used the same way to get a good deal from his truck!

Hope this is helpful to you.

The old "ask for the fleet manager" is one of the lamest of all buyer tactics. Real fleet managers have absolutely no time for tire kicking buyers looking for discounts. For many car brands that have rebates, etc., true fleet pricing is higher than retail. Although there are always the few that pipe up on forums like this with,"but I bought from a fleet manger and bought for $x over cost," I'd bet that many encountered tlc's scenario above.
