Venture/Montana Transmission problem
« on: December 08, 2005, 06:02:08 pm »
After having my 2000 Venture's manifold and head gaskets replaced, I am now having to pay to have a new transmission.  Funny that my neighbour's 1999 van and his brother-in-law's Venture also needs a new transmission.  I'm seriously thinking of taking GM to small claims court to recoup some money.  (The van only has 124 000 km)  Does anyone know if there is actually a known fault with these transmissions, or is it just a coincidence that three people that I know with these transmissions have had problems?

Alleclerc Welcome to the Forum, as posted already one of the worst things you and any  one else can do is not service the auto tranny at the recommended time intervals. If you or the friends vehicles have not been serviced and have towed without a proper cooler then thats what causes the damage. I would try a proper flush and new filter kit to see what happens in a independent shop other then your dealer as they will be cheaper and may have a better answer for you as well. There are certain adjustments some of the better Mech's know how to do. Hope this helps.

Isn't the transmission service interval more than 124k usually? I thought it was every 160k or something like that.

Just for the record . . . My Venture transmission was serviced at 64 000km and 122 000 km before it broke down at 124 000 . . . so servicing was not the problem.  We also had it checked out just before it broke down because there was something "funny" about it .  . . but the dealer could not find anything wrong.  My advice to anyone whose GM transmission is acting "funny" is to trade it in or accept the fact that you will be paying 3 800 dollars to replace it.
