2006 Nissan Frontier LE KC 4X4.
« on: December 08, 2005, 01:09:42 am »
I purchased one for myself as a Christmas gift November 21st. This was the first time I've purchased a new vehicle,or dealt with a dealership. It was a learning experience to say the least.
I was sold on the first test drive. A 2005 Frontier SE CC with a class leading 265 hp+282 ft/lbs of torque 4.0 l V6.
Although the KC has the same exterior dimensions, I sacrificed passenger room for bed length.
I'm married with 2 young kids, so the possibility of numerous Rock'n'Roll road trips with 3-4 adult friends in my truck seemed near imperceptible next to the reality of having room for the stuff I need for my hobby farm. The KC has one tether available for a baby seat behind the passenger bucket. This was all I needed as we have a minivan for family excursions. I wouldn't suggest a full grown person sit in the jumpseat for longer than a trip to the local chiropractor.
After doing some in-depth study into the company brochure, for the $4000. less I opted for the KC's Vehicle Dynamic Control over the CC's rear full size bench, and full size doors. The only other options available, are on the CC and they are a $2500 Leather/Audio package + roofracks, a garage door opener, and possibly a sunroof.
This leads me to the price I paid, how I reached that amount, my experiences with a coupla salesmen, a business manager, the sales manager, and an account of the one-way communication with the general manager of a highly polished local dealership, not to mention the drama involved.
Unfortunately my fingers hurt, so I'll wrap up by saying that based on my first one hundred kms, and the wood I've been sporting since delivery on December 6, I feel that these Frontiers will have a prominent role in the way midsize pickups are manufactured in the future. The engineers listened to the people, and responded appropriately.

Hey, congrats on the Nissan FourBy.   :)  It would probably be my choice if I were to buy a midsize 4x4 pickup.

Was it you that replied to my other post.  Im looking at getting the Nismo edition.

Is that the silver or white that you own.  And if I may ask, what was the final price

Nice truck.....I do not see too many Nissan trucks on the streets....I think they're pretty underrated by consumers.

Surprisingly I've seen quite a few, even if I live in Ford country with 2 dealers in the area I see farmers driving Nissans.  Nissan did stumble initially with the Titan and brake issues but that's fixed I hear, on the other hand my friend in the plumbing business has had his Ford in for problems 10 times with stays of 3 to 4 days at a time!

Yeah, the Japanese pickups are extremely undervalued here in Canada.

Titan sells nothing, and Frontier not far off of that. But I get the feeling Nissan isn't trying... at the TO Auto Show last year they had just one Titan there. If I'm not mistaken they only had one the intro year as well!!! Crazy.

Honda sells more than double the amount of RidgeLines. Toyota's Tundra still sells more units (especially D-Cab units) even tho it's been considered less truck (in size and engine) by many. Only with the new Tacoma has Toyota effectively positioned/priced, advertised, promoted, supplied, and moved from lots a significant amount of trucks. I expect Toyota Canada will do the same when the new Tundra arrives. Toyota now seems interested in growing truck share as they've expanded their car portfolio so much already... Nissan isn't quite there yet it seems, even though they sell nearly 90,000 units/year in the US of Titan.

Yours is a great lookin' Frontier! Definitely something to crow about

I've put another 150 kms on her, and am getting a lot of looks. I haven't seen another '05 or '06 on the roads around here, and I don't imagine I'll see many KC's because everyone wants the CC.

Yep snowman, stores 4 cars with an office, thats the reason I bought this place outside the city.
But now I think I need more shop space, so I'm trying to convince the'o (the 'o' lady) that our next priority is to build a new outbuilding behind the house, it's a slow process tho'.

Yep spidey, that was me on your thread, I paid $33200 + freight, PDI, and tax for LE KC. No leather, I think the CC NISMO costs about a grand more than CC LE 4X4 and you get Bilstein shocks, skid plates and locking diff.  instead of 17" wheels, step rails, and compass/thermometer on LE CC. I don't believe you can get the leather pkg (about $2500) in the NISMO. So no power/heated seats. Both come with a 380W Rockford-Fosgate audio system and 10 speakers, incl. subs. The LE CC leather pkg. also includes the side and curtain airbags, that are standard on the NISMO and KC LE, as well as the VDC, HDC, and HSA standard on the KC and NISMO.
When I asked in Nov. for a silver '05 LE KC there wasn't one to be found in the province, so I asked for the '06 in silver, and after 2 weeks of no cooperation with a dealer trade got the last one. I wasn't going to wait 3 months like they asked for one from the factory.  I think the NISMO are even more rare, but if you aren't fussy, the finance rates on the' 05s are 1.8%- 3.8%, on the '06's they jump to 2.8-4.8%. 1% =approx. $600 over 3 years on full total sum financed.
I tried the Toyota & Dakota,  I didn't get the same solid feel from either. IMO, the Nissan LE excels in pull, and cornering, as well as esthetics. Bumpy like a truck on potholes but flattens large bumps effectively. I imagine with the Bilsteins and offroad tires the NISMO will feel different than the LE, so I suggest you try both in your travels.

My VW I have now has lasted me alsmot 13 years.  Still love the car, nothing wrong with it, just time to move on and find something useful

Hey spidey, how'd you make out?

I found some some great dyno info. on the 4.0 L, if assumed to be correct, this page may represent the worthwhile mods. available for this V6, with considerable time and expense spared, thanx to the reverend.

Didnt take it for another test drive,  They only have the SE in.  And although in print the LE does sound nice, I wont know till I sit in one.  Research and then research again

A little bug today, I'm about 300 kms in to my first tank of gas.(est. 400km. :P)
I pulled up to a stop sign in 4X4, and 3 idiot lights lit up my dash. >:(
ABS, VDC off, and SLIP. I switch to 2 wheel- nothing goes out. Hit VDC button- nothing, shift thru all gears, pump brakes... then park, shutdown everything, and let it cool for 20 minutes.
When I started it again, the idiot lights were off until I engaged the tranny.
I left the parking lot rehearsing my encounter with the service manager.
I then went for a tour to see if heating up the truck would make a difference.
40 clicks of backroads later, I pulled into my garage with the lights still on.
Shut down and restarted, the lights stayed off, so I went out for another tour.
They stayed off, so I'm guessing a chip of ice, or stone, lodged in the ABS gear
and shut down the entire VDC. Question answered for now, but if it happens again, I want to read the board with my OBDII. The next question is where do I find the Nissan code translations on the 'net?
Anyone else seen this bug in their '05 or '06 V6?

I would have gone to the dealer right away, these things are made to be abused a bit and I can't see ice causing that.  What does the owners manual say about these conditions?  Was the vehicle in "4x4 lock" ?

Test drive a used 2005 SE on Dec 31.  Awesome truck.  Dual exhaust makes for more horse power, and the extra bush guard, chrome package and hitch make the truck look good.  Plus the hitch is something I want on it anywhere..

Anyone think $29,000 too much.  What bargainig power do I have, its the only used 2005 I can find in Alberta.

The only difference from 2005 to 2006 I have read is the tires, and the badging at the back is a bit different.  I could definitly seeing myself in this truck.  It drove like a dream, lots of power with that dual exhaust.

Found a new 2005 LE edition with leather for $4000 less than a 2006.  Thats makes it only about $2500 more than a 2006 SE

Now what do I do  :o
