hmm yeah indeed... Honda doesn't have any engine that can generate that much more torque than horsepower... I wonder why they decided to go with forced induction for this particular model though... naturally inspirated has always worked well for Honda... why change that now? Maybe they're tired of being accused of not having torquey engines?

With that power, this thing should be quite a burner.  Not sure why you'd want a turbo SUV though.

Well....a turbo SUV without a Porsche badge.   ;D

Well to be honest, from pictures, the RDX doesn't look like a SUV... not sure what it stands for, but Acura calls it a CUV... the RDX doesn't look much higher, or much bigger, than a Forester... so they do seem to be competing against one another.

And I don't mind them going with a turbo for the RDX... finally Honda will have a 4-cylinder engine with lots of torque, and that should still consume less fuel than a V6 would have... my only worry is with the turbo reliability since Honda doesn't have much experience with turbos, but it's Honda... so not to many worries there...

But in a consumer, mass-production vehicle? And a lot has changed in engine technology since they used turbos in F1... they most likely didn't research and work on turbos very much in the last 9-10 years since none of their vehicles had them... or maybe they did, were not satisfied with the results and went with naturally aspirated engines instead? Who knows... And besides, it is very likely that they will buy the turbo from a supplier that supplies turbo for Subaru, Mazda, or whatever.

there is a pic of the rdx from detroit with some acura exec and it looks to be quite low like a subaru or audi allroad.

It is pretty low, taller than an allroad, it's a small SUV.

I bet Mazda was blindsided by a 4-cyl turbo.

TSX is often compared with Mazda6
Who's betting RDX will be compared with CX-7?

Mazda better hope the Acura badge is reflected in higher pricing. Both Acura and Mazda tend to value price in Canada vs the US, so will be interesting.

I think the Mazda is a tad larger as well, hard to tell as they were not side by side.

Certainly everyone was blindsided by a turbo.  Nobody every thought Honda would do a Turbo!

No kidding! If Honda now starts to use turbos in addition to their already excellent engines, watch out!!!

I was surprised by this also, a big step from Honda. With the recent HP race Honda is probably close or at the limit of economical normally aspirated technology. Turbo charging is a cheap way to make HP gains. Just ask Subaru.

Repairs on turbos are $$$$$$$$ ... good thing they'll be on the warranty.

The 2007 CR-V which will debut in fall of 2006 will be kissing cousins to the RDX. No word as to engines or 4WD system, maybe if they go SH-AWD with the RDX they will go VTM-4 with the CR-V. My somewhat educated guess is that they will be all done with Real Time 4WD though.

Any info on the new CR-V from anyone out there?
