2007 Acura RDX
« on: December 06, 2005, 09:12:15 am »

Some spy shots for the much anticipated Entry Level CUV from Acura based on the Honda CRV

What Edmunds.com Says:Sharp looks, advanced all-wheel drive and a cabin filled with the latest technology should make the production RD-X a worthy competitor to BMW's X3.

What We Know: Imagine the RD-X concept with larger conventional door handles, outside mirrors and slightly less radical head- and taillights, and you've got Acura's answer to the BMW X3. Expect it to hit Acura's showrooms in 2006 still carrying the RD-X name. Based on the Honda Civic platform, the RD-X is approximately 7 inches shorter than an Acura MDX. The RD-X resembles its larger brother, but its look is more chiseled. Acura is keeping the SUV's engine a secret for now, but it did say the RD-X will have over 200 hp, the high-tech SH-AWD system from the company's RL flagship sedan and four-wheel independent suspension. Sadly, its huge Brembo disc brakes and 19-inch wheels and tires will not make it to showrooms. Although the RD-X concept shown in Detroit was packed with space-age gizmos and gadgets, the production version is likely to incorporate more current technology like a navigation system with voice recognition and a satellite communication system, which includes real-time traffic information

I'll wait to see it in its final non-covered version before judging it too much... but it's rear end seems to be very long after the wheels, and the hood seems to be very high/not slanted enough. I'll wait a bit, but it seems odd for now. I hope I'm misled by all the covering on it, and that it looks much more like the concept drawings!!

Anyone has an idea on its price though? Over 200hp (probably the Accord's 3.0L engine) and the SH-AWD system plus the necessity to slot in between the CR-V and the Pilot somewhere, I think it will be around $38k to start. Depending on standard equipment, it might be a good deal. Can't wait to see one in person! I wonder if the inside is similar to a CR-V in terms of space, cargo, etc. Looks like it.

The concept vehicle had some pretty neat features....very much tailored to the active professional.  I'd consider one if I were to replace the MDX.....but without actually seeing it and driving it, it would be tough to say yes right off the bat.

Looks larger than I expected.  I wonder what they're going to do with the aging MDX?

There's an inversion of power for you.  MDX born the Pilot, Pilot will born the MDX.

Rumours have it coming in 2007.  There's been a few spy shots of a mule undergoing testing.

RDX pics….not too bad, not accustomed to the front. Something just looks out of place.

it is interesting to see these suv's moving toward the size and height of that thing we used to all know and love. ...  the station wagon.  a cursed name now i suppose.  audi calls it an avant.  i am not a big fan of suv's but i am happy to see these things looking much more car like.  lower is better thank you.   maybe if it is low enough, i might consider buying one.  i always loved wagons and hatches.   if i did though i would have to call it a wagon  not a suv.  hehe ::) 8)

Sure looks like Acura is getting a CRV counterpart. The size is smaller than the MDX from the looks and it might just be the Acura equivalent to the new CRV?

I wonder if this means that we'll see their SH-AWD system in the MDX soon? Or in the new CR-V maybe?! I doubt we'll see it in the CR-V, but in the MDX and maybe even the TL, it's quite possible!

Pricing should be somewhere around $38K-$39K to start.  Add the navi system (based on Acura specs, that should be the only option), it'll go fully loaded in a premium trim at around $42K.  That's my guess.  Like most Acura's, it's cheaper than the competition.

If it's as big as the current CR-V (from pictures, the RDX seems a bit lower and shorter than the CR-V, cargo area looks smaller), $42k for the fully loaded one will be a pretty good deal. I wonder which engine will power it though...

According to acura.com, it's an all new 2.3L DOHC i-VTEC 4-cylinder turbocharged engine generating 240hp and 260 ft-lbs of torque.  I haven't seen much written elsewhere about it.

It seems odd that Honda would go with a turbocharged engine when they have never went that way before... And besides, the 3.0L V6 from the Accord would be perfectly suited to the RDX IMO...
