And yet I still continue to torture myself. I didn't have much time for shopping last night but made two stops after leaving the office later than I would've liked...
1st: BMW dealer to check out a Certified Series 330, or 3.
I keep missing my old e36 so I thought I'd see what's what... Had a look at three of 'em. Black '01 330Ci (equipped EXACTLY how I would... spectacular car)... but more marked up than I would be able to handle. Next... Silver (gack!) '02 330i with sport and premium pkgs (there was an '01 identically equipped in great condition too... more mileage though). This thing is damn-near perfect. Astonishingly-good condition for a 4 year old car - fewer stone chips than my newer A4 had!
Of course, being married, my spirit is completely broken and I had no will-power to resist whatsoever and took it for a drive... with summer tires... as the snow started to fall. God I love that car. From the glorious sounds it makes (seemed a hell of a lot louder and snarly than my old 328 -- which was later confirmed by the salesperson) to the delicious, deep wells of intoxicating power -- I swear it feels more lively and fierce in acceleration than the '05 Mustang GT I drove a few months ago. The sport seats are leaps and bounds better than the regular seats I had in my e36 and in my A4 and it was fun watching the "eyes" awaken as the auto-levelling Xenons came to life.
As I was headed back toward the dealership, I started calculating what a set of snow tires / wheels would cost and how much warranty remained on the car when I recalled why I got rid of my previous BMW. It was as if a light came on. In fact it did... the oil light. A used 330i would be a wonderful, exciting and emotional decision... not a sensible one.
So, as the snow started to fall a bit harder, I went a block down to the Subaru dealership to see if there were any WRX deals to be had. Aside from the '04 STi they just got in off a lease return (perfect condition), there weren't any to be had. However, '05 LGTs are being offered at a surpringly low (for Subaru especially) rate, so I might actually keep my eyes open for one of those. Base model GT with stick shift. Nothing fancy needed... just fast and fun.
On my way back to the office from a client meeting this morning, I noticed the local Mazda dealership across the street from where I was filling the Civic up with fuel (gotta love going back to the reality of regular gas and a tiny tank!)... and did a quick drive through. Hmm.... 3 black Mazdaspeed6s, 1 red one, 1 new MX5, 1 leftover RX8. Plenty to drool over there.
To be continued...
