How does tirewear warrant a class action lawsuit?

Did VW specify in writing when you purchased your vehicle that your tires will last X amount of Miles?  Manufacturers put on cheap tires, they probably cost them $1 each, slap them on and away they go.

Tires are a maintenance item.  30,000km on OEM tires I would be happy with.
