Thats a good looking FireChicken you have in a very nice colour as well. Whats under the hood of this one? Chev or Pontiac engine? 305, 307 or the 350. If the new one is faster then it has more ponies and a better gear ratio then the old girl but why hurt it as its a nice investment toy to own. Defintely look after the old one as its a collectors piece for sure.  :)

Sweet rides! Old and new muscle! How is the Cobalt? I knew that they had the 2.4L in the Pursuit GT; but I didn't realize that they had it in the Cobalt SS in addition to the 2.0L 205 hp supercharged mill. I wonder how you would fare against the supercharged 2.0L. You have less powew; but more displacement (I'm not sure how you compare with torque). How do you like your Cobalt with repect to fit/finish, ride, handling, ergonomics etc? It seems like GM is actually in the compact game for the first time in well over a decade.

The 2.4L Ecotec is an awesome little engine. The G6, Solstice and HHR have it as well.

It is very smooth throughout the rev range--as smooth as Honda. It also redlines the highest of all the Ecotecs and has a 10.4 to1 cr.

GM did a great job with the Ecotec.

It has somethings in common wit the S/C SS:

engine oil cooler
piston oil jet squirters
forged rods
5 lug axels
same brakes
Same suspension as the ION Redline.

The VVT is pretty mild I will admit. The S/C SS has more torque but I have more at lower rpms and a flatter torque curve. Rev this puppy up and it flies.

I love the rest of the car. Great fit and finsh and attention to detail. The handling is great and the chassis is super stiff.

I look forward to racing a Civic Si. They are a few ticks faster but if the driver messes up even a little I can take it.

GM is definatley in the game in the sport compact market.

The Formula is a 400 and still has the orginal engine. A 6.6L (400) Pontiac engine.

The Cobalt does have better gearing but wins cause its about 1000 lbs lighter. I got so many looks in the Firebird.

Took it to Peters Drive In one day (local burger joint) and EVERYONE looked. Try that with a Civic!

A new set of Richmond gears will help Old Yellow out quite a bit I would think. Is this the big block 400 that Pontiac had out back then? Expensive to rebuild but very strong engine.  :)

Since the OT topic of Peter's came up - it always was a Calgary institution, I remember going to Peter's in the 60s & 70s. I did go last summer when over there, and thought it not as good as the previous times - has it slipped or under ownership?

Just a trivial query to Calgarians. Torontonians need not apply.  ;)

I've only been in the past decade  ;) but I personally don't think it's all that great.  Since the e.coli scare last summer, the place has picked up right where it left off....so it is a Calgary institution.  You gotta go.  I went...but it's nothing to write home about.  Burger and shakes.

I think it's the same owner....but I really don't pay that much attention to it.

new owners---I haven't noticed a difference though. Food is okay--but just going and hanging out is the good part.

Yes, avro, preferably on a warm summer evening. Place used to get so lined up for service it took forever, but no body cared because it was fun just being there. Do you know that Peter's used to be across the street to the east in a very small drive-in?

When I first moved to Kelowna in 1990, there was a place similar to the old Peter's here called the Burger Baron. Crumby old drive-in with the BEST burgers in town. It was torn down about 8 years ago, and some new store selling furniture sits there now. Progress, but you can't get a decent burger here any more.

Burger Baron is a Franchise, now they also offer 2-for-1 Pizza and Fried Chicken. Still a few left in central Alberta, like Lacombe, Rocky Mountain House. Head Office is in Edmonton. Slowly it is dieing. A 1/2 lb Buffalo Burger is a good lunch sometimes. Peter's was up for sale 3 years ago or so, for $2M. Not too bad consider the volume they do. Burgers has gone downhill in the last few years tho. Hard to find good workers, quality control is .... forget about it. The shakes are good, mix-n-match any flavor you want, close to 100 ingredients to choose from.

Chicken-on-way is not too bad, located on 10th street. High pressure deep friers, KFC used to use them, but not anymore.

Actually, that's interesting, initial_d; as the one here was NOT part of any franchise operation. One local owner who had it a long, long time. Same name, but not a franchise operation. In any event, it's gone now.

Fuddruckers in Winnipeg, before it went under, was one of the better burgers I had. A drive-in joint in Flin Flon was the best ever……a Zinc Pot with cheesy bacey fries… :lick:
