I received a letter from VW this morning about the DSG:

Some customers have reported transmission issues. Due to a potentially faulty component, a bushing which can suffer premature wear.   They go on to say that this will cause the transmission to be very jerky but does not affect safety. This applies to some ( "a limited number") of DSGs in the 2007-2009 range.

So they go one to say that by late spring they'll have a tool that can detect transmissions that have the faulty bushing. If you have one you'll get a new DSG and a loaner while they do it.
The warranty on the transmission is extended to 10 years/160,000 km.   I read this as the warranty being extended on all DSGs in the range where there MIGHT be a faulty part even if a particular transmission in the range is not faulty.

They don't say how many transmissions may be affected.  I bet that a batch of these bushings with improper heat treatment or slightly off spec for size got mixed in with some good batches so they don't know just how many are bad.

I got my letter this week also but haven't really read it, just put it on the bills pile to deal with later. I've already had the "flash" done at my last service, what every that does for it.

Will say its nice to get the extended warranty for the DSG, not that I had troubles sleeping at night but just in case something did go wrong.

Now coming up on 20,000km and loving every one of them.

How is it possible that after electricity has traveled through hundreds of miles of power line then hundreds of feet (or yards) of romex in our home, that changing the last three feet of wire with something exotic, expensive (cool looking, and packaged in a pricey box) is going to make a difference?

Thanks for posting this. I did not get a letter yet. I am the 2nd owner so its possible that it might be delayed or not show up. I am due for service in another month so I will be sure to ask about it then. At the very least it would be nice to have the extended coverage. I'm coming up on 25,000 and have only ssen jerky bechavior on very cold mornings until things warm up. Other than hat DSG is pretty smooth.
