New Suzuki SUV for 2007
« on: November 16, 2005, 09:24:52 pm »
The new Suzuki SUV will be a crossover ute larger than the Grand Vitara and the outgoing XL-7.

"Due in the 2007 model year, the new ute will offer three rows of seating and a V-6 engine, likely a version of the 3.4-liter V-6 that powers the other SUVs based on the same Theta architecture - the Pontiac Torrent and Chevy Equinox. Although close to the Chevrolet and Pontiac variants, the Suzuki seems to be a bit longer, making it the largest SUV that Suzuki has to offer."

"Production will be at the CAMI plant in Ontario, alongside the Equinox and Torrent. The still-unnamed Suzuki will be in dealerships sometime next fall."

I wonder if they will be able to do as well as the GV? ... another SUV with a useless 3rd row.  The rear really looks like a Torrent/Equinox even under the camo.
"Can we make this quick? I have to give a banana to Annie's Boobs."

Is that built at CAMI?  Does it use the Theta platform?     Let the games begin!

YES!  It is built at CAMI!  YES! It does use the theta platform!  (although it is streched) YES! It will use a 3.6L GM block!  But the engine will be assembled by Suzuki unlike the 3.4 in the Equinox and Torrent and produce over 250hp and it will outsell the GV in North America with estimated production/sales topping 50,000 units in its first year of production.  NO! GM will not share the product or offer their own version.

Eax, looks like we could use another FAQ. Gets tiresome after a while, doesn't it. It was the same with the Yaris. Some things just don't sink in until the 12th repetition.  :P ::)

woah!

How did Suzuki massage an extra 60 HP out of the same block as the Equinox/Torrent twins?  Ohh right, it's not assembled in China for $.55, with a 23% QA failure rate!  :o

Go Suzuki! and go CAMI! and go Theta-platform based Grand Vitara!  :rofl2:

D'oh. The 3600 LY7 V6 (currently built in St. Catherines, Ont.) is a completely different engine than the 3400 LNJ V6 from China.

My mistake, the original article /posting made itr seem as thought it was running a massaged/stroked version of the 3.4L - Thanks for the clarification.

hahahaha, I am now the resident GV-troll 8)

So, I hear the GV is built in Cami, and the only difference is that they scrape the saturn badge off the trunk and put on a Suzuki badge, is this true  ???  I also hear that the seatbelt clips say "GM" on them, and that the steering wheel has the word "THETA" burned into the underside of it?

So this article is wrong then?  The engine won't be in anyt way related to the chinese-built POS 3.4L?

Seriously, my mother and I stopped by the dealer to try one of these out, as she is tiring of her 2001 RAV4, and the engine had some serious valve lash sounds going on..> Had the saleswomen start a few more up - TDI's are quieter at cold idle!  :o

and driving the 3,4L, holy **** what a POS!  It feels like the old GM 4.3L TBI running down on 2 cylinders, what an absolute abortion of a motor!  Let's hope that Mr.Morton is right, and that the 3.6L is not related to the 3.4...

Suzuki and GM agreed back in 2004 that Suzuki would be able to build versions of GM's "global" V6 family at a plant in Japan, tailored to the needs of Suzuki vehicles. Currently the global V6 (2.8, 3.2, plus the 3.6 we're talking about) is made in either St Catharines, Ont. or Port Melbourne, Australia.

The 3.6 is a 24V DOHC design and is not related to the old-tech 3.4 12V OHV engine.
