The story says that the Boxster can't hold Golf Clubs?

I own a 1999 Boxster and my wife and I routinely go away on weekends with both sets of our golf clubs in the back trunk (they are light carry bags - with the woods removed and placed on top of the bags in the Boxster's back trunk individually).  The back trunk easily accommodates my one set of golf clubs without any problems (don't need to remove any clubs).

So unless the 2006 model has been changed I would think it should still hold golf clubs? This is one of the best features of the Boxster compared to similar cars.

...Man that Boxster rear end is FUGLY....looks like a BEETLE!!! a dung beetle's  hind end...light colours just show up the poor design...If you are playin' in the $80K's might as werk anuffer MONTH and get a CAY-MAN!!!!! Kiss......the internal egonomics (bath tub seating and rear vision with no side windows in soft-top and roll bars!! man a mess)

That's okay, Saffy, your lack of taste simply means more Boxsters for those of us who appreciate 'em.   Wink

Yes, Boxster's most appealing practical feature is the dual trunks thanks to MR configuration. Bow Bow

The 350Z cab seems to be an oft-overlooked vehicle...  I don't think I've ever seen one on the road (several Z coupes and G35s though).  The cab doesn't do much for me, imho the Z is meant to be a coupe.  Awesome coupe, too.  Cheesy

A friend of mine has a black on black 350Z.  It's a fast bugger.  Not nearly as pretty as a Boxster but just as fast if not faster.  In the drop top configuration, it looks awkward.  The lines on the asss have nowhere to go without that hatch profile....the flat trunklid looks misplaced in the swoopy 350Z profile....I think railton's sister owns a silver 350Z droptop.....but just because it's got the power/speed doesn't mean it's a Porsche.  Wink

On a contrary, I always saw 350Z roadsters on the road.

IMO, boxster shoppers aren't cross shopping the 350z.  Unless they are looking at the roadster, but there is no comparison there.  The roadster is heavier and more of a GT car.  The Boxster S is more performance.

I see plenty of used Boxsters in the $20K's.  No need to pay big bucks for a new one as the used supply is plentiful and prices really low.

Of course, the first time something needs mechanic-attention, you're getting lighter in the 'ol account.  But, saving $40K+ on the price eases that pain a bit...

Porsche's regular oil change just charges about $229.00, reasonable for a Porsche. Grin

A major tune-up at 100km costs 10k. But I am not sure if I am still driving that Boxster at 100k km. Cheesy

With Jim and Audi Tom, we have two Boxster/A3 drivers on the forum.  Shocked

I like the Boxster myself and find the luggage space to be a big plus with it. Plus, it looks rather exotic. Go light on the specs, and it's a decent value - not super quick, but poised and I'm sure the sounds from the engine are just right.

Having owned one of the first generation Boxsters, and now a 350Z Cab this is my take on it.

The Boxster is better handling, but the 350Z is more spacious for big guys like me. Mediocre storage in the 350Z, very good storage fore and aft in the Boxster.

The fit and finish of the 2006 350z is far superior to the Boxster that we owned, but it was a first year model and has probably now been upgraded.

We went with the 350Z because it looked different, whereas the Boxster is now, in my humble opinion, a dated design. it is getting long in the tooth, but Porsche has a tendancy to hold unto their designs for ever (think 911).

Neither the Boxster, nor the 350Z are striking with the tops up ..... both need to be topless ... and then I think the 350Z is the winner.

The only quible is that some of the design cues from Nissan have now been borrowed (very smartly indeed) by Pontiac for the new Solstice.

The 350Z certainly wins on price, but it is not the track car the Boxster would be. At least not without a bunch of Nismo upgrades. I have also found the 350Z to be tail happy when aggressively driven, which was not a problem with the Boxster.

Nevertheless both have been fun to own, just do not buy the first few years of the Boxster model, there were many teething problems. Same actually applies with the 2004 350Z.

Happy motoring folks.

I have heard from some Porsche insiders that some very early 97 Boxster has engine problem. They had to threw many of them into the trash after they couldn't passed the tough QA in the factory. I agree the 97-98 986 interior materials are terrible, almost Altima-like but really improves whole lot as years go by.

Yeah, many early Boxster owners had the engine go south on them.  Un-Porsche-like.

So a used Porsche will sell for $20ish and would be roughly 6 years old?  That would mean it's close to the 100K on the clock...which means you'll spend 50% of the purchase price to do a tune up.....nice used car bargain.
