Wax on, ... wax on!
« on: November 05, 2005, 10:00:29 pm »
Hi folks,

Lately I've taken to applying a good Meguiars paste wax... AFTER the hand car wash has used its spray on wax.  Basically, I'm waxing on wax!  I've only done it twice this season and so far, so good.  I decided to do it this one final time as the weather is about to finally turn wintry cold for good.  Today it was about 10 degrees Celsius and sunny.

Naturally, I make sure that there is no solid matter on the car beforehand which would scratch while I'm applying or buffing.  The shine is fine and the beading of water is much more pronounced than with just the car wash job.

This also begs the question as to how good their wax product is in the first place.

Any comments?

Depending on which product you are useing I find it to be one of the very best in the market place to-day. I have done almost 30 carshows this year already and have used nothing but this brand on my showtruck.  I use their Swirl Free for the main base coat with my polisher and then for road trip quickie's and fast cleanup at shows I use their Final Finnish. Most of the time the front end of my truck is covered in Bugs and stuff so The Final Finnish does a great job for me. I buy it from one of their dealers as the price by the 4ltre container is much better then in the stores by a lot. I use almost this large size up every year with my travels.  :)

It's Meguiars Gold Class Clear Coat Paste Wax.

So what you're saying is that applying a paste wax on top of a very recently applied spray on wax as I've done on a couple of occasions is fine?

I try to strip away any wax left on the paint with a good detergent hand wash.  Then comes clay bar.  I have no swirl marks so I have never used that stuff...and then it's onto the wax.  I use the spray on wax stuff inbetween paste waxes.  I've never used them at the same time.

I don't think you hurt anything by doing what you're doing...but try a clay bar...it does wonders.

As mdxtasy said, the clay bar does wonders. If you run your hand across a panel that you did the clay bar on and one you didn't,you can really feel the diffenence.
Enjoying the Alberta advantage

Thanks to all who answered.  Next spring, I might give the clay bar a try.

Now it's time to rake leaves, vote in municipal elections and have a beer.  ;D

Where would one buy a clay bar ? and do you need to buy a spray to go with it or does soapy water work?

I tried Canadian Tire, Lordco, Walmart with no luck.

:o "Lordco"? Even HE has gotten into retailing now?!

Picked up the Mother's "QuikClay" kit at Canadian Tire the other day.
