My 5
« on: November 03, 2005, 01:52:01 pm »
Here's some pictures of my Platinum Silver 2006 Mazda5.  It's a GT model, which means it has a spoiler and 17" tires.  I made sure to buy a manual transmission too.  Very fun car to drive!  Some mods I'm hoping to make in the next few months include HID's, as well as tinting up the back windows.  Since these pictures were taken I've installed a rear step plate to protect the back bumper.

It doesn't always rain in Vancouver.  Sometimes it's just cloudy.  :)

Delivery day... it'll never be this shiny again, will it?

... and yes, it is a 5-speed.

Nice ride!  I have yet to see a 5 in the flesh (no local Mazda dealer), but from the photos I've seen it is a real looker.

What a co-incidence... was at lunch today paying off the remainder of my student loan (yay for me!) and spotted a Platinum Silver Mazda5 - nice tinted windows but a base model. After being snagged by a red light, I caught up to it again... what a slick looking vehicle... I love how the side looks from a rear 6/8 view similar to your photo but from even further behind... very low to the ground and sporty bodywork.

This particular Mazda5 happened to be driving beside a Nissan Quest of similar colour. Boy, did it ever look beautifully compact next to that stylish lug.

Since the recall issue is behind, people should once again start seeing the vehicles on the road again. Mazda sold 40 in October since the issue was resolved, and I've seen a few pop back onto the lots.

As you must know, I love the thing and it's still very high on my list as a vehicle to buy myself.

Looking good. I had a look at them when I went for a test drive in the Mazda3 Sport. I was favourably impressed with the layout and seemingly good fit and finish. Very pleasant looking vehicle too.  ;)

Very cool looking van/car/thing! I was looking at one when I was at the dealer two weeks ago. I was surprised how much room there was in it. And it looks even cooler in person!

Very nice perfecto. I check a 5 out whilst drooling over the MPS6. I also sat in the new Miata again. Mazda has a nice showroom happening when you toss in the 3 and RX-8. Not many showrooms in the industry with more sex appeal than Mazda these days.

Very nice car! I still don't like the clear tail lights though... I really wish they would change those. But other than that, awesome looking car!! I've seen a few on the roads around here and I like it more and more every time I see one! I'm still not a big fan of the seating design (would much prefer one 3-seat bench and then tons of cargo space in behind than 2+2...), but other than that, it really looks like the ultimate vehicle for small families right now. Congrats!

I hate to say it, but I agree with Shnak...not a fan of them.

While i'm not a Mazda fan, the 5 really seems to be (on paper) the most practical car around and I think the design works.  re: Clear Tail lights.. not a fan. I prefer to have them darkened.. but that's personal.

About keeping it shiny.  YES it can be that shiny again.  Meguiars 3 step does it.  I use the more aggressive compounds now (car is 4 years old) and it still looks like new.  I do a FULL 3 step every 12-16 weeks for the last 4 years and I apply it with a dual action polisher.  If you really are serious about keeping your car looking new.

Clean, Polish and Wax (steps 1,2,3) can be bought at Canadian Tire for about 50 bucks and will last for about 4 applications.  50 dollars a year to keep your car looking like new.. in my opinion is worth it.

Thanks for the nice comments guys!  :)

As far as the space inside - it is dramatically bigger inside than it looks on the outside.  I think that's the biggest shock to people, they look at the outside and say "it looks small" and then they sit in it and go "wow, it's big".

I've actually been quite successful in keeping it nice and shiny by using a lot of Megs products, but I've never done the full 3-step and don't have a polisher.  Just a pure wash, clay, wash, wax (all done with good products of course) seems to keep it nice and shiny.  Going to have to find time over the winter to do this stuff too!

I was considering darkening the tails, but don't really know where to go to do that.  Can it be done along with a tinting application (which is #1 on the list when Mazda sends me the $500 for keeping my 5 on a lot for a month)?

Hmmmmmm ... :)

I was wondering about a light tint on the tails as well.  It would be nice to tone them down a bit.
Otherwise, the 5 is an awesome car for the price!
The Carbon grey scratches(hairline) way too easy though.
If I could go back in time I would have got the White pearl....

Sweet ride! I am looking at getting something like this when the lease is up on my Grand Caravan. I need something with a fair bit of space as I have bins full of home health care products that I have on the road with me. This would give me something more sporty/interesting to drive in additional to better fuel economy. Who says you can't have your cake and eat it too! 8)
