Here's the deal, I've managed to locate a 05 Mazda6 GT sedan I4 (not the hatch as I was looking for but sedan is OK too) and I've also taken a good look at the 06 sport GT I4 model and it doesn't look too bad but IMO the 05 still looks better. My dilemma is:  I've gotten a really good quote for the 06 for $34.5k OTR but I wouldn’t mind saving a few thousand dollars on the 05.  If you were me, how much $$$ would sway you to the '05 sedan instead of the '06 hatch? How much of a discount should I expect for the 05? What would be a reasonable offer the 05 considering WRT to the 06 quote?

Whatever you do, don't forget that the 2005 model will instantly depreciate a full year the minute you buy it... so if after 3 or 4 years you decide to sell your Mazda6, there will be a difference of $2-3k between the 2005 and 2006 models. Just be aware of that. So for that reason alone, I'd expect the deal on the 2005 to be at least $2k cheaper than the 2006... and an excellent financing rate too...

In addition to the extra depreciation (more relevant if you change cars frequently), you are looking at slightly different bodystyles.  While similar looking on the outside (the hatch is better IMO), you get more versatility with the hatch.  It's important to consider.

I don't understand why anyone would buy the sedan with the hatch available, unless someone was really REALLY stretching to get a base model Mazda6.

I'm not sure what the MSRP difference is between sedan and hatch, but that and plus $2,500+ for me to consider it.
