Replacement Dream?
« on: October 29, 2005, 02:45:08 am »
Since the 'why you bought what you bought' thread went so well, just wondering what Truck/SUV/Minivan you'd like to have to replace your current SUV/truck/minivan?

If I could, I would consider replacing my MDX with a few choices including:

1) Porsche Cayenne - what can I say.  I love Porsches.  I drove a Cayenne and they do drive very nice.  Sporty and refined.  The V6 is really not that impressive and would have a tough time keeping up with my MDX or Highlander's.  The Cayenne S is much more powerful but I'm not a V8 guy....would love the power but I just don't need it.  The Cayenne Turbo is just a hot tamale.

2) Honda Ridgeline - I love the versatility that this thing offers.  It's not the prettiest thing on the road, but I like it.  It's got good room for passengers and enough cargo room for the suburbia in me.

3) Honda Odessey - This van is so well thought out.  If I were to move away from the SUV and into the minivan world, this would be it.  To me, it's the ideal minivan on the market for a growing family.

4) Mercedes R-Class - looks good and the design impresses me.  Haven't seen one on the roads yet and I haven't been inside one yet...but I like it.

I'm not planning any moves in the next little while, I know my wife loves the MDX and I do think it's a fantastic vehicle for us.  But if I were to get any signals from her...... ;D

I would have wait to see what the new GMC pick up are like to change my truck.
I have tried the new fords in 03 but did not like the interior. Same with Toyota,
Rams suck a little too much gas

I would also see what truck my cap would fit on, as it over $2gs to replace the cap
I am hoping this will be my last truck I buy

I do not want I minivan benn there done that!

Well most here know that I would choose a wagon over an SUV any day, but if I were in the market for one I'd probably take a Volvo XC90 V8 or  a that 400 horsepower Land Rover Range Rover (on lease so I'm not stuck with the repairs). I would admit, a Cayenne would be nice, but I if I'm gonna have a Porsche in my driveway, you better believe it's gonna be a car. Let's see, and maybe one of those stretched Jeep TJ's for some serious off roading fun!

EDIT: just thought of another. Cadillac SRX.

A H4?

Just kidding!   :stfu:
I must say the RAV4 is great, but I'd take a good look at the Suzuky GV.
Or a E55 AMG wagon  >:D

I'd love a V70R but on principle, I'll never consider it.  The E55 wagon is crazy...I'd also consider the BMW 5 wagon and Audi S4 (a bit tight on rearseat room though) if I were to go the wagon route.  The Legacy GT would be on the short list too....but there are no domestic wagons that interest me.  Not even the SRT8 Magnum.

Anyway, the entire Porsche lineup is so juicy now.  They finally fixed the front headlights and each model from the Boxster/Cayman to the 911 looks superb.  However, that's not in my deck of cards for years to come.  The XC90 is a nice SUV, the V8 addresses the shortcomings I had about it when we were looking, but like I said, I'm not a V8 guy.

I do like my toys in the cars.  The reverse camera is very handy in parking situations and whatnot, the DVD player is a bonus that hardly gets used, and the navi is a fancy screen....it's only been used a handful of times.  These are expensive options on the German makes and makes it a deterrent for purchasing them.

The Porsche has a tiny interior and the rear is a squeeze for 3 in all directions.  I was surprised.  You'd be far better off interior wise with a wagon.

Tiny isn't the correct description....but it is small for the size of vehicle.  The Pilot/MDX is probably the largest interior-wise in the midsize segment.  Do I need that much room?  Nope....but it is nice to have.  The MB R-Class is really starting to interest me...but it is expensive.  Excuse me while I go buy some lotto tickets.  That and a 911 Carrera S would do just fine for me.  ;)

Whoa Whoa.... I thought we were talking about SUV's here.... ???

Wagons are a completely different story. Definately would have to have a V70R and a 5 series wagon. The E class wagon is a stunning design for sure. I've actually seen an X-type wagon in white. Very rare but it looked great, espacially in white (and I don't even like white for cars).

Wagons are not really considered SUV/minivan/trucks....but crossovers can be included in our discussion I'd think.  The more I look, the more I like the R-Class.  Fancy Pacifica......

I like the sound of the Liberty CRD - diesel would be a nice touch, but don't really know enough about the vehicle to judge accurately.  Other than that, were I to buy an SUV, I like the Cayanne, Murrano (and its Infiniti clone), and the smaller Lexus (RX330?).  Not a fan of the big huge SUVs, nor can I forsee myself ever needing one.  If I need that kind of carrying capacity, I'll take a Honda Oddsesy, tyvm.

While I agree that the Porsche backseat is a little small, it's still pretty decent, when we take my mom's for a ride with myself and both of my brothers in the backseat we are tight, however, it is far more comfortable then her previous STS and relatively comfortable for 3 grown adults....If I were to replace this car I'd have my mom get the Range Rover Sport (I've been working on her for a couple of months telling her she should get one so hopefully my persuasion techniques will work)

As for myself, I love my Murano (despite a little CVT issue I experienced today), but if I were to replace this with another SUV I'd probably choose the Land Rover LR3 or the Mercedes G55, boxy but nice

With the difference in most truck box's being a lot between some of them you may have to go back to the same make and model of your existing truck to be able to reuse your Topper. Most of them do not cross over from brand to brand because of the Physical Dimensions.  :)

Interesting thoughts all around. Mdx you mentioned the R class and to me it really is a souped up Pacifica and that isn't a bad thing given the motor werks. But it is an American built car with perhaps a few problems to be sorted out.

If I were to go back to a second vehicle for myself to have as a toy I would still consider the Chevy family and the new Suburban is looking good on paper. I loved my 96 but with the 454 engine and today's gas prices it would hurt every time you filled it. The Avalanche I enjoyed too - more for what it could do in terms of throwing things in the back, but it didn't have that rush that I got from the 454. Power does corrupt. Come to think of it a one or two year old Denali would also be nice.

If an SUV is a consideration and maybe next year it might be - I really am impressed with the ML 350. The six is enough for me because this would be the daily driver. It looks good and the reviews back that up although it didn't win the Motor Trend award. Have to read that carefully.

But if the practical me is around next year I'm likely going to be looking at the Highlander or maybe a Ridgeline. I know, I know, the Murano was there, but that dang Highlander keeps bugging me for what it does so well and as a basic appliance and a daily driver it may be what I SHOULD get. Now a test of the Ridgeline may change all that but.... :banghead:

Not sure if it was the CVT, but that's what I'd assume (I'm not really knowledgeable on engines).  I was driving to the mall yesterday and at every traffic light I would hit the gas and nothing would happen, so I'd have to keep pushing my foot down, finally the engine would kick in and just shoot the car out, it happend over and over and I was really getting upset, cuz it almost had me stuck in the middle of an intersection during a red light.  I parked the car and by the time I left the mall the car was working perfect again, hopefully it was just a one time occurence.

Report the issue to the dealership so they have it on file.  Things that go wrong are rarely an anomoly.

baumer00 - EXACTLY the problem I was reading about on the Murano sites when I was in my MO vs HL decision process, AND one of the reasons I did not get the Murano. That problem with the CVT is not uncommon and many owners were mentioning it. Some trannies have had to be replaced already. I suggest you do a search of the Murano sites on the net and check it out. I forget which ones they are or I would give you a link.

I am not prepared to live with a vehicle that causes that kind of problem, even it under warranty. Thus the Highlander.

And Inco - what I just said, plus the resale of the Toyota it better, and, for me so far as a daily driver, it is just great. I have not had nor do I expect, any issues with this vehicle.

what do you mean when you say report it? Do I just call them up and tell them to put in on the file or do I actually have to go in to the dealership?
