Nice Yaris, we have one in the family too...fun to drive, but I am not a fan of her on the highway...I find its wheel base, being so short, makes it rather suceptable to big changes in directin from tiny steering imputs...then again I am used to cars like my Subaru Legacy and my former GT car on the highway.

How have you found fuel economy...I find a tank of 87 octane gets me about 500-550km in the city...which seems good, but not great...what have you found?
His: 2001 Subaru Legacy Wagon, 2.5L 5spd.
Hers: 2006 Toyota Yaris 5 door, Automatic.

interesting...I wonder what is more $$, the additonal cost of running synthetic oil, or lossed economy from the reduced L/100km.

I don't consider dollar savings or increases of running synthetic.  I stand by them and the stability of the synth vs the dino as well as the other benefits are worth it to me.  I love my cars and will let them drink the good stuff.  Premium fuel and synthetic oils.

What MDX5 said. The vast majority of my driving is VERY short distance, so there is a lot of cold start-up and potential for excess wear. As I plan on keeping the Yaris for a LONG time, I want it to have the best. If the mileage improves as well, so much the better. BTW, I mentioned on another thread that the engine is also noticeably smoother, especially during the first drive of the day.

interesting, I would never have considered the Yaris engine to be anything but silky...its so quiet I often have to reference the tach to make sure its still running. the engine on my former Lexus made alot more noise...if you can beleive it!

Than again my DD is a Subaru with a flat four...which are not know for their smoothness...so I may be a bit biased.

I talked it over with the wife today...we may atcually switch over to Synthetic...but we wount do it till our next oil change, which is in 4 months...(the car has just seen 5000km and we have had it since late 2005)

It's not that the engine was rough before, but I distinctly noticed the change the first morning after the change. It was cold and I have a fairly steep hill to climb about 1 km from the start. With the synthetic, the growl was all but gone.  ;)

I put syn in the Pathfinder at its last oil change and I noticed a noticeable change as well, now starts with only about half the cranking it needed before (like the VQ needs lots of cranking to start with  ;D).  No change in fuel consumption though.

Good to hear some feedback from Daffi  ;D

My husband will tell you, I screech everytime I see a Yaris/Echo hatch.

"Ooohhh look, it's so cuuuute!"

I have to admit though, I miss those "sad, puppy dog" eyes on the Echo hatch....., but Yaris looks more substantial.

I did very much like the Echo hatches I test drove, but you are right, the Yaris is much more substantial feeling - and more civilized AND has a smaller turning radius, better suspension, etc.  ;D
