Interestingly, 4 wheel disk brakes start with the EX which also includes the moonroof. The EX is very nice for $25K. Might be a better in-towner than the hotter Si. I wonder??

The EX also has more sound-dampening material and quieter tires.  They don't emphasize this in their marketing materials, but it is a huge difference on the road if you test drive an EX and LX back-to-back.  The EX is extremely quiet inside -- much quieter than the base model Accord and approaching Lexus territory.  I found it a little too quiet actually; you feel a bit isolated from the road, and you miss some of the engine sound because of the extra hood dampening.  As an in-towner, it could be a better car than the Si, depending on what you want.  They'll be totally different experiences, I suspect, if the EX/LX difference is any indication.

And here I thought the DXG was quiet.  The EX seems more appropriate in the sedan with auto.  Personally, If I was seeking a manual I'd blow by the EX coupe and go straight for the Si as the 6th gear would be a must have.

Don't know where you heard there was a difference in sound insulation between the different Civic trim levels. That is news to me, nobody said a word about it at the offical launch or in any literature I have read.

As far as people paying $2 for the upgrades between DX-G and LX, there is more to it than just alloys and cruise. Also painted mirrors/door handles, outside temp. gauge, additional interior lights, variable speed intermittent wipers, and an upgrade fro 15" to 16" tire size. Not a screaming deal for those extras but decent value. Our problem will be DX-G supply between now and the Spring thanks to suplier problems (so they tell us).

EX is only $23K excluding freight/taxes, not $25K. That is only $300 more than last year's Si Sedan.

The LX in the US represents a good value.  I'm not so sure here in Canada.  Undoubtably, Honda will mix up the options in different packages next year.

Personally, if I was so inclined to get an LX because of those upgrades I would throw the dice and get the EX: sunroof, rear discs, darker interior and killer stereo in addition to the nice features of the LX.

The only two major complaints on the Civic are the fixed outside mirrors which blows and the lack of a remote trunk release which is standard on all US models that have remote door locking.  This will change next year.

The Civic EX is a luxury compact car.  Drive one and you will not be able to dispute it.

As for the black mirrors and door handles on the DXG, I would agree that in colour other than black and galaxy metallic grey it is an issue.

I would agree the EX is damn sweet car for the money. An acquaintence of mine just got one for his wife and they love it. Traded in a 4 year old Malibu with only 70KM on it that my friend says was about to cost them serious repair money. These ppl also have an MDX (replaced a GC several years ago) and a BMW 330 Cab. They do take care of their cars. He says no more domestics - depn hit too much.

Anyway the EX is a sharp looking ride. I really must go drive one.  :D

Cwbb, the situation that  you are in right now is really bad, the worst part is there isn't much you can do even  if you are willing to bite the bullet and take a loss. Put an ad in the AutoTrader for a short  period of time and see what happens, also try to put the ad on some sites that will charge a flat fee (after it is sold), and I don't know how good they are.

Question  for ArticSteve,  just curious that you traded in your Si, though you would sell it on your own for sure, with you in the auto business and all.

The car was really driven/paid by my son although in my name for some pretty common reasons.  A few problems developed particularily because the vehicle was lowered so much.  The trade showed 17K plus change although we got less of course.  However that represents approx. $2600. in a trade tax credit.   As it was, the car could not be certified with it's lowered suspension and it, unknown to me at the time, wasn't going to return to stock without some $$$.  The front pads were gone, the tires were completely shot, one had a screw in it so it was riding foamed/gucked, it need two more tie rod ends and the steering rack was making noise.  Still a well looked after motor (synthetic oil) and Krowned but the resale/wholesale/demand for the car disappeared so a private sale would have been a massive headache and big delay. Personally, my motivator to get rid of the car was that I took his new 4 bolt winters on rims and put them on my mom's 4 bolt EL.
