You did just fine.  2 1/2 hours in a dealership can be grueling.

Also, congrats on getting out of there without dealer rustproofing or addons.  Spending that money on winter tires instead was very smart.  Go to Krown for better rust protection.

Extended warranty is simply insurance.  Most here would advise against it, and I agree.  Chances are, it won't come in handy, or won't cover the specific problem you may have down the road, despite what they tell you now.

I second that.

Congratulations and well-done!!! The red looks pretty sharp on the 3's as well, so nothing bad there.

And before someone else does it...

bytown - congrats on your new car. Look forward to the pix.

As to the extended warranty, most makers let you decide as late as the earlier of 36months/60000kms. You pay a small premium for that privilige but it lets you avoid the decision today, and defer the payment into the future. You might even get rid of the vehicle by then. Ask Mazda if they do that. Lot's of others do, I know.

I think Mazda is still the only one with 36/80km's comprehensive warranty, but I'd ask about that too. Best of both worlds, as you can see through that point how reliable the car has been.

Yes Mazda is still 3/80.  I think you can move it up to the 4/100 B2B for under $500.

EDIT:  Congrats on the new car!  Its a great car and welcome to the Mazda family.

Good job. I'm impressed when someone uses common sense, investigates what they don't know, and then makes a decision. So many people obssess for months, can't make a decision to save their life, and then wonder why their experience is so bad.

Thanks so much for the feedback. It takes away some of the apprehension I still have about this purchase.

I have a question though - I haven't received the car yet. I called the dealership last night and was told my sales guy has been off sick for the past few days. I spoke with the sales manager and he said that my sales guy has to go to Montreal to pick the car up. Here's my question - my new car is being drive from Montreal to Ottawa - ummm doesn't that make it not so new anymore?  ???
What about the roads between Montreal and Ottawa - not great in some spots - I'm worried I'm going to get a car someone drove the cotton out of with paint chips.

I thought paying freight meant I got the car delivered new to the dealership no?

It's funny how some car sales people never seem to give you all the details from the beginning. Personally I never buy a car unless it's on the lot. I like to see exactly what I am buying.

Forget about the sales guy. At this point just deal with the manager. Talk to him about getting your car shipped. It costs $100 for shippng between Edmonton and Calgary. I wouldn't think that Montreal to Ottawa should be much different.

I agree. My Impreza was driven from Toronto to London because it had to be sourced out of Toronto vehicle inventory for my aftermarket sunroof install. It arrived in London with some minor paint chip damage to the front end already. I inspected it when it got to London and had the dealer address it to my satisfaction before taking delivery.

It is fairly routine for vehicles to be driven between dealerships, so that's not unusual, but it's your car so ultimately it should be your choice to upgrade to having it shipped. I certainly would.
