06 Tribute
« on: October 24, 2005, 11:18:58 am »
Is it a good idea to get the extended warranty... 5 years, or wait until the 3 year warranty is up and put a little $$$ away just in case. They want $40/month for extended warranty.

I think that it is a pretty reliable vehicle and I wouldn't pay for the extended warranty. After the manufacturer warranty expires, keep a bit of money aside just in case, but you shouldn't need it for at least 5-6 years IMO.

Daggy -- can you give more info when you make your posts.  $40/mth for how long?  Which warrenty?  Need more details.

$40/mth over 4 years is $1920 which sounds like a lot.

I think the Mazda 4/100 b2b is less than $500.

Since your info is brief, the answers are brief - warranty - NO, wait.

If you have to consider a $40/month warranty insurance then perhaps you should increase your payment to lease a better rated SUV.

An extra 2K for the warranty?  That is a few pretty pennies....might not be worth it and if I were you, I'd stash away that $40/month along with whatever else you were going to stash away (like another $20/month) and after 5 years, you've got over 3K for any work you may require.  More than enough to cover out of warranty expenses.

;)  Our 2002 Tribute owes us nothing. It hardly had to have the wipers replaced. So being a 2006 they must have made great strides to improve it even more... anyways we pick it up on monday. Can't wait to have that new car smell back... our 02 smells abit poochy, sorry Jedda!

Daggy, I have to ask; Why were you hesitating to purchase a $2,000 extended warranty when your current Tribute has given you 4 years of trouble-free driving? Or do you think your current Tribute will suddenly become a lemon? That seems unlikely...

I WOULD NOT pay for that warranty! Very pricey if you're askin' me. And if you're investigating, make sure it's a Mazda/factory related in some form. Independent ones tend to have loads of terms, deductibles, etc and all that jazz.

Congrats on the new Tribby tho!

Why pay an extra $2000, if nothing goes wrong after 4 years we will have saved $$$... If something does go wrong after 4 years we will have put some aside but we are covered for the first 3 years anyways, so no need to panic yet.

Would undercoating your vehicle VOID a warranty?? Our dealer said their cost to undercoat would be $600!!!! when I can get it done for $100. He said we would have to wait 3 years to do it ourselves... weird!

I wonder if Performance hired the guy from Bank St.  They told me the same lie.  You can get it treated yourself right away.

but still, why were you considering the extended warranty when you had basically ZERO problems with your current Tribute?
