OB2 Trouble Code

I have a 2002 Jetta TDI and the check engine light is on. It doesn't blink but just stays solid. I put my OB2 code reader ??? on it and got a code of P0673 but it is not listed in the code manual. I suspect that when I got my timing belt changed that maybe the injector timing got slightly altered. The "6" in the code has something to do with an output signal in the timing. Anybody have any input?? Don't want to take it to the dealer and pay $200 so they can reset the code and tell me it is nothing.

Since the code is not generic, you may have a VW-specific code trip.  The dealer shouldn't "reset" the CE light, but instead read the code and begin a diagnosis of what is causing the light.  OBD-II systems will shut the light off if the offeding problem goes away on it's own.  If your CE light is still on after a couple days, I would think that you have some problem that extends beyond the little light on the dash.

..OBHave..!!! seems like these trip lites fantastic onna dash are more a bane than a boon ta the end users....cause no end of angst and monied trips to the dealers fer trivia...time ta lose the Nav systems and give us ALL a $200 screen that answers the FACKIN' LIGHT QUESTION S EASILY and in plain Swahilli.........Jambo 'an that........ :-\

Found this elsewhere:

"A  trouble code P0673 on the diesel is a glow plug cylinder #3 malfunction.Check for an open or shorted circuit to the #3 cylinder glow plug and test the glow plug. "

Good answer Tenpenny as I believe we have had this similar problem on here before. One of our other posters have encountered this within the last year or so. If I remeber correctly it is a fairly simple fix.  :)

At the risk of being accused of advertising. That $200 the dealer would charge would buy a copy of VAG-COM and a shop manual which will tell you everything when you get a fault.   I dont know about your dealer but Agincourt Autohaus uses VAG-COM except when they need a real VW-Audi machine to do the printout for warranty claims   www.ross-tech.com

Thanks tenpenny! Maybe stupid question but is the #3 three from the left? Dealer replaced a glow plug already. :)

My only connection with Ros-tech is as a) a satisfied customer for VAG-COM and b) a frustrated potential customer waiting for the release of BIM.com for my car!   They say that BMWs are far mor difficult.... I believe them and as a programmer of real time systems for many years I am impressed with vag-com as a neat piece of work
