Goodyear Assurance Tripletred Vs Nokian WR "all weather"
« on: October 21, 2005, 09:52:34 pm »
I live in Central, British Columbia. I am moving to Vancouver in about 9months. Which tire would you recommend? Is the Nokian WR good on rain soaked roads also? Pros and Cons of each tire? It will cost me about 150$ more for the Nokians but I find that since I am spending all this money on tires, I will get the Nokians if they suit me better.

I live in Saskatchewan and have Nokian WR's on my '95 Mercedes E320 (no traction control) and they are very good in all conditions.  They are a little noisy but very good in snow and rain.

I think the Nokian WR would be great in winter and snow, but I just can't see how a tire with that many sipes would be good in the dry hot summer months, without feeling squishy and noisy, and would wear terribly...

Tires are all about comprimises...  If you wan't the great winter and great summer traction, get dedicated sets...

..I feel  the GAP between dedicated clunky Winters and Basic ALL season (summers) is closing ...and YES..FOR NOW...BEST WINTERS & BEST SUMMERS are the way to go fer those with a coupla G's spending in their pocketbooks..BUT...there are a FEW high Performance Winters (H&V rated) that could turn this conundrum on it's head.....I'm sure the TYRE Co's don't wanna say much about it...they like selling multiple & confusing sizes, types!! &
wear ratings etc//etc.... BUT because of competition or whatnot.....there are & prolly will be MORE ...cross seasonal tyres out there( EXTREME CONDITIONS EXCEPTED fer now!!!).......
I have posted elswhere about folks running Dunlop Winter M3 (V rated) with success ALL YEAR  in the Northern States  and loving them(better than their ALL seasons they say)....... It's NOT F1 guys ya don'r need a new tyre fer each race ta the 7/11 OR Blockbustaaas.......
THERE IS NO CURE FOR "LOTUS"......ONLY TREATMENT.....

FOR THE NOKIAN WRs, I was quoted $205.85/tire for 205/55R16s and a grand total of $1024 inc tax for the whole job.  Very pricey indeed.  I don't know if it's worth it.

They said they include 100,000km tread life, free puncture repairs, free rotations..

What say you.

Pricy indeed.  Guess it depend on how long you keep your car and how much you think this saves you from buying dedicated sets.  Saffy's Dunlop M3 suggestion looks like an option, but thsy aren't cheap, either.

Here is a good review for the NOKIAN WR:

I know this is an old thread, but the info is still valid.  In addition, I was thinking of getting the WR-G2s (replacement for WR) but Fountain Tire has the Assurance's on sale right now where you buy three, you get one free.  That's a savings of over $100 compared to the Nokians (when they are on sale).

It's really too bad that there are no direct comparison's between these two tires and the reveiws on the WR-G2s are also scarce.

There seem to be mixed reviews regarding the WR-GR2's, some saying they are not as good as the original WRs. I am looking at replacing my WRs on a Subaru Wagon with the Hankook Optimo 4S'. There are not many reviews of this tire either, but they are less expensive than the Nokians.
