Canadian Television for A1 and GP Masters Series??
« on: October 20, 2005, 01:36:22 pm »
Does anyone know if these racing series will be televised in Canada?

"The third round of the A1 Grand Prix series will be at the Estoril circuit in Portugal on October 23."

The Grand Prix Masters Series is supposed to start November 13th.

Well, I don't think anyone is quite 70... 50's maybe.

And at least if they have a heart attack doing it, they're better off than croaking on a golf course taking part in a "sport" with an excitement quotient mid-way between a yawn and a fart.

Heh heh...

The last I heard there is no NA TV yet for A1GP.

I think they are three races in to the inaugural.  Word was Brandshatch had a good crowd, Lausitz was a ghost town.

This series has a ton of Saudi oil money behind it, but the cost must be absolutely unholy.  No TV no Sponsors...but If I had a few hundred billion to blow, I couldn't think of a better way to spend it :)  I'd be curious to see it, pretty much because I am desperate for racing from Nov to March when this series runs.  I wouldn't expect to get blown away by the quality of the action looking at the specs of the machines they run.  400 hp less than F1, 200 less than Champcar, 100 less than EARL.

Actually if you go to the A1gp.com website you can watch the action on-line.  It's too bad TSN isn't carrying it.

Actually it's not Saudi money, it's UAE (United Arab Emirates) money behind the deal.

Yah it may not be as technically impressive as F1, but the racing is fun too watch.  At least they have some passing.   I still love F1 overall, but it's nice to have this in winter.

The raced in Monterrey Mx last week.  Carpentier took Sean Mcintosh's seat for the race, and did rather poorly.

Word on AR1 is the organization was absolutely brutal.  Only sold about 15K tickets.

And this was the first track we could compare A1 times with other formula's.

Seabastian Bourdais Q'd at 1:13:6 last year in the Champcar Lola.
Luiz Diaz qualified a 240 hp Toyota Atlantic in '03 at 1:24
A1 top Q speed was 1:22:3.

9 seconds is an absolutely massive difference!!!

They are off to Laguna Seca next IIRC, we'll see what they can do there I suppose as well.
